To all whom, it may concern Be it known that we, MnLvIN L. SMITH` ed certain new and useful Improvements inl Ovens for Heating the Tires of Wa gon-Wheels, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to ovens and furnaces for heating tires of wagon-wheels and other articles to which it is adaptable; and it consists in certain improvements in the coninafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of an oven having our improvements. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section of the oven, taken from front to rear.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing certain i parts ot' the oven. Fig. 4 is a perspective View illustrating the openings in front with slide-covers. Fig. `5 is a detached view ot stove or tire-box.
A designates the main building or shell of the oven, the whole being usually constructed ot' brick or stone and iron.
B indicates the stove or lire-box, located at the bottom of the oven and under the tracks on which the tires rest when being heated, the said iire-box being provided with a chimney or smoke-pipe, C, and a door, C', in the main easing,
D is a door for opening and closing amanhole provided for access to the interior.
The front wall of the oven has an opening, which is closed by means of the iixed vertical strips F, extended upward, as shown, and the movable slides E inserted between them. The vertical pieces F are made of two iiat pieces of metal bolted together, with-rollers or washers ce placed at intervals between them, thus forming spaces along their edges andv herring-points for the slides E,which are readily moved up and down severally for the insertion of the tires, or any of them, into the oven, as shown at G in Fig. l.
Within the oven, directly back of the front openings, is fixed a frame to receive the tires G and support them in position, said frame consisting of the vertical rods I, secured to thev oven at their upper ends, the horizontal l l i l rods J, and the tracks or ways H, in which the tires rest. ward from the slots or openings, in which are placed the slides E, the rear ends of the tracks being supported by therods I, attached thereto. The said tracks, as seen in Fig. 2, are inclined somewhat upward from the front, forming an inclined plane, so that when it is desired to take out a tire, the slide being raised, the tire, from its own gravity, moves forward through the opening.
The closed stove B extends along under the frame which supports the tires when being heated, the lower part ofthe frame, in which struction of ovens for such purposes, as here- L the tracks are formed, having openings through which the heat has free passage to the tires, which are all heated simultaneously and uniformly, a small quantity of fuel being required.
Either of anumber of tires in the oven may be removed therefrom without disturbing any ot the others, and without material loss ofheat.
As seen at b in Fig. 2, the interior surface of the oven is made to conform somewhat to the shape of the tires for economy of heatingspace.
XVe claim- 1. A heating-oven for tires of wheels, having in the i'ront of its casing openings with slide-covers, in combination with a iiXed frame and inclined tracks, directly in rear of such openings, for supporting the tires, substantially as shown and described.
