SFECIFICATION 4forming part of Letters Patent No. 313,986, dated March 17, 1885.

To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, FREDEICH BURCK- HARDT, of St. Charles, in the county of St. Charles, in the State of Missouri, have in-- vented a certain new and useful Improvement in Car-Floors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is aside elevation. Fig. 2 is atop view with part of the flooring removed. Fig. 3 is a bottom view. Fig. 4 is an enlarged transverse section taken on line 4 4, Fig. 2; and Figs. 5 and 6 are still'further enlarged detail views illustrating the manner of securing the ioorng to the sills and the ends of the sills to their. end pieces.
My invention relates to an improved floor or bottom for railway-cars; and it consists in features of -novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the body of a railway-car.
B represents the sills, which are made of `I or channel iron, supported by end strips, C,
to Which-they are made fast by angle-irons D and bolts or rivets I. (See Fig. 6.) On top of each sill is secured a strip of Wood, J, by means of bolts or rivets L. (See Fig. 5.) .Secured to the strips J by screws or nails N are the boards O, that forrn the fioor of the car. I claim as my invention- A car-floor consisting of iron sills, end strips, angle-irons, and bolts or rivets by which the sills are secured to the end strips, strips of wood bolted to the tops of the sills, and board secured to the strips of Wood. f
