SIRIECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 313,474, dated March 10,1885. Application filed September 27, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. CROW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nebraska City, in the county of Otoe andState of Nebraska, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Harrows; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ot' the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention has relation to reversible harrows 5 and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of two of my harrows attached to a double-tree. Fig. 2 is a detail side view showing the tooth attached to the angle-bar. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of Fig. 2 cut through on the line x x.
My invention is described as follows: The bars a, to which the teeth are attached, are made of angle-bar iron. Theyare secured together by means of the cross-bars b and b.
These harrows, when completed, are attached to the double-tree c, by means of the clevisirons c', and when attachedto the double-tree c by these clevis-irons c the teeth dstand perpendicular in relation to the-barrow.
These harrows are also provided at their other end with clevis-irons c, by which they may be attached to said double-tree c, in which case the teeth d will set backward at an angle of about thirty degrees. (See Fig. 2.) This tooth d is held against the face of the perpendicular flange a of the angle-bar a by a strap, @,which ts over the said tooth, giving it room to play backward about thirty degrees. The middle part, e', of the strap c is raised by two right-angle elbows, c2 cwhich make a slot for the tooth d to play in. The tooth d is straight and pointed and the body square, has a shoulder, d', and neck d2, the upper end of which is 45 turned down at arightangleto form ahead, cl3, and itis completely iinished before being putin the bar a, which allows it to be yformed under a drop-hammer, and does away with all handwork on it. 5o
In the upper or horizontal flange of the bars a are perforations f for the neck d of the tooth dto pass through. This tooth has a shoulder, d', which rests against the lower face of the horizontal ange of the angle-bar a. When 5 5 the tooth d is put in place, the head d3 rests against the upper face of thehorizontal ange of the angle-bar a. Thus the tooth is prevented from coming out, and the shoulder d prevents it from being driven up higher in 6o the perforationsf, while its lower end is permitted to play in the slot left between the raised part of the strap e and the perpendicular ange of the .angle-bar.
Having thus described my invention, what 65 I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a reversible harrow, the combination of angle-bar a, having perforations f, with tooth d, having shoulder cZ, resting against the un- 7o der face of the horizontal flange of the said angle-bara, andhavingneck d2, passing through said perforationsf, and its upper end or head, d3, resting on the upper face ot' said ange, and strap c, havinga raised center, c', secured 75 to the perpendicular flange of said angle-bar by nuts and bolts or rivets g, substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
