(Cl. 272-85) This invention relates generally to amusement apparatus for children, and more specifically to a novel type of swing construction.

It is a primary object of this invention to provide an apparatus for exercise and amusement which comprises a circular seat or swing board which is supported in a horizontal plane by diametrically opposed ropes which extend upwardly to form an apex by which the seat is supported.

lt is another object of this invention to provide a novel swing structure which is capable of holding several children and may be operated to swing in any direction, gyrate in an arcuate motion, or merely rotate about its central axis.

Yet another object of the invention is to provide a sturdy swing structure which may be used as a conventional swing, or may be caused to gyrate in new and interesting patterns hitherto unobtainable in the conventional swing.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a swing structure for children which may be simultaneously enjoyed by a number of children at one time.

A full understanding of the construction of this invention, together with further novel features and advantages, will be had from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment thereof, taken in conjunction with the attached drawings wherein:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the apparatus and associated support frame structure.

FIG. 2 is a side elevation of the swing structure supported in a multiple swing mounting.

FiG. 3 is a cross sectional side elevation taken through the circular seat and showing the peripheral rubber bumper surrounding the same to provide added safety for those playing on the apparatus.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, the numeral 5 represents a at circular disc or seat which may be provided with an outwardly projecting peripheral rib 6 for the purpose of mounting a semi-circular bumper pad 7. The bumper pad may be molded in rubber and is provided with a groove 8 formed centrally of its inner side for engagement over the rib 6. The seat may be made of plywood or other suitable material and is supported by means of four eye bolts 9 which are disposed at an equally spaced manner adjacent the periphery of the disc. Four equal lengths of chain or rope 10 are secured at one end to the eye bolts 9 and extend upwardly to terminate in the ring 11 of a common supporting eye bolt 12. The eye bolt 12 is secured such that it will project vertically from a suitable support structure. A ceiling beam, a bough of a tree, or a support framework are given as examples of the type of support which 6 may be suitably utilized for this purpose.

In FIG. 1, of the drawings, the eye bolt is shown extending centrally through the horizontal plate 13 and may be rigidly locked with respect thereto, or may be permitted to rotate about a vertical axis according to preference. The plate 13 terminates at each corner with four downwardly extending tubular sleeves 14 which lockingly engage four downwardly extending arms 15. Each. of the arms terminates in an elbow 16 which is mounted cross bar through suitable elbows 21 and short tubular arms 22. 'I'he apparatus is supported intermediate each of the pairs of legs by the eye bolts 12 which extend radially through the cross bar 20 and are secured in position by means of suitable washers 23 and threaded nuts 24.

The dimensions of the apparatus are of course a matter of choice, though it is intended that the seat should be in the order of three feet in diameter so as to be capable of supporting up to six children at one time. The versatility of the apparatus will be quite apparent to the reader since there is no limitation with respect to direction of movement or rotation, and combinations of such movements may readily be accomplished by children either standing or seated around the seat periphery.

Having described the invention with considerable particularity, it should be understood that various modifications may be made to the precise detail thereof, without departing from the scope or spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claim.

I claim:

An amusement apparatus for children comprising, in combination, a ilat circular seat, a plurality of support ropes of equal length extending from the periphery of the seat and terminating at a common supporting eye bolt, said eye bolt being secured beneath a structure to support the seat for arcuate and pivotal movement relative thereto, said eye bolt being rigidly mounted beneath said structure, said structure comprising a horizontal rectangular plate supported by tubular arms and legs extending downwardly from each corner of said rectangular plate, and tie rods extending horizontally between the upper ends of the legs forming a rectangular frame to maintain said legs in a ixed relation with respect to each other.
