NET CONSTRUCTION Filed May 16, 1965 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 FIG. 5.
FIG. 2.
if@ BY ATTORNEY Levei Wa er United States Patent O M' 3,127,692 NET CONSTRUCTIN Isaac` Adleberg, 7632 Park Heihts Ave., Baltimore, Md. Filed May 16, 1963, Ser. No. 280,833 2 Claims. (Cl. 43-7) This invention relates to nets and it is more particularly concerned with means `for supporting a net in a functional position.
An object of the invention is the provision of means for supporting a net adjacent a shore line to delineate an area of water for the purpose of trapping tish or for providing a safety zone for persons, especially children, to swim or bathe.
Another object is the provision of such means for supporting a net which includes members that can be manipulated from the shore to draw the net toward the shore for the purpose of capturing fish trapped in the water area delineated -by the net and shore, and for returning -the net to its original position.
A further object of the invention is the provision of means for supporting and manipulating a net as explained above which is relatively simple to provide and easy to use.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of such means which is sturdy, long wearing, and which is not likely to get out of working order.
These and still other objects, advantages and features of the invention will appear more fully lfrom the following description considered together with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
FIG. l is a front elevational view of an embodiment of the invention.
FIG. 2 is a cross sectional View along the line 2-2 of FIG. l.
FIG. 3 is an elevational view of the upper portion of one of the posts, on a larger scale, showing the pulley means.
-Referring to the drawing with more particularity, the embodiment illustrated comprises a strip y11 of fish netting, having a median section 12, and adjacent sections 13 and 14 on either side. To the top edge 15 of the strip there is secured metal rope rings 16 and 17 at either end of the median section 12.
Ropes 18 and 19 are secured at one end to the rings 16 and 17, respectively, such as by the use of clasps 20 and 21. These ropes engage pulleys 22 and 23 which are swiveled to the upper end of the posts 24 and 25, respectively, by means hereinafter more fully described.
These posts are adapted to be driven into the ground under the water adjacent the shore line 26, the distance between the posts being somewhat greater than the length of the median sect-ion 12. The posts are of a height to support the net above the bottom of the water and weights, such as lead bars 27, are attached to the lower edge 23 of the median section as well as of the side sections 13 and 14 to hold it on the bottom of the water.
rIThe posts 24 and 25 are preferably made of hollow 3,127,692 Patented Apr. 7, 1964 lightweight material, such as aluminum, so as to be easily handled and readily installed and removed in a selected location.
The pulleys 22 and 23 may also be of aluminum and mounted on the end of vert- ical rods 29 and 30, these rods being adapted to be insertedv in the top of the posts 2'4 and 25, respectively. The rods 29 and G0 are also provided With thrust collars 31 and 32, respectively, to abut the upper edge of the posts. The pulleys are, in this way, swiveled to the posts and can be quickly attached and removed. Additional rope rings 33 and 34 are secured to the outer ends of the side sections 13 and 14 for the purpose of attaching guy ropes 35 and 36, respectively.
For trapping iish, the side sections 13 and 14 or either of them may be lowered by releasing one or more of the ropes `35 and 36 and the area 37 between the median section 12 and the shore line invested with bait or a fish attractant. When fish have come into the .area 37, the side sections 13- and 14 are erected by pulling on the ropes 35 and 36. They can be held in this position indefinitely by anchoring them to pegs 3S and 39, respectively, on the shore. The iish are then trapped between the three net sections 12, 13 -and 14 and the shore. When it is desired to appropriate the sh so trapped the median section 12 is gradually brought toward the shore by pulling on the ropes 35 and 36 while releasing the ropes 18 and 19 `from their anchor pegs 40 and 41. The net can be returned to its initial position by pulling `on the ropes 18 and 19 while releasing the ropes 35 and 36.
The ` side sections 13 and 14, may also be provided with cork lloats l42 along their upper edges `43 and 44 to hold the edges on the surface of the water when the ropes 35 and 36 are released.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. The combination of a strip of lish netting having a longitudinal top edge, said strip having a median section and adjacent portions on either side of the median section, a first pair of rope rings secured to said top edge at spaced points dening the outer ends of the median section, a second pair of rope rings secured to the outer ends of lthe top edge of said adjacent section, posts adapted to be set into the ground at points spaced from each other at a distance corresponding substantially to the length of 4the median section, a rope attached to each of said rope rings, and rope pulleys swiveled to the posts for engaging the ropes attached to the rst pair of rope rings, each of said ropes being adapted to be connected at one end thereof to net anchoring means.
2. A combination as defined by claim l in which the strip has a bottom longitudinal edge and lead weights secured to the said bottom longitudinal edge.
