UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
FRANK A. MARSHALL, OF MARLBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
LAM]? 0R CANDLE STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 81,251, dated January 29, 1861.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK A. MARsHALL, of Marlboro, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Lamp or Candle Stand for Illuminating indows; and I do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, of which Figure 1, denotes a perspective view of a candle stick constructed in accordance with myinvention, the nature of which consists in the arrangement and combination of a strut and a spring hook with the candlestick, or its disk, the purpose of such strut and hook being to support the candlestick and fix it to the bar of 'a window sash.
In the drawings, A, denotes a candlestick of which, a, is the candle socket and b, the dish or supporter. From the bottom of the said dish, a. metallic arm or strut extends as shown in the figure, while from the edge of the dish, a spring hook C, is projected directly over the strutthe outer end of the hook being pointed and bent down at or about at a right angle to the remainder of the hook.
Fig. 2, represents the mode of applying the said candle-stick to a window sash bar. In the said figure D, denotes the bar, while E, E, are the panes of glass. The end of the strut B being placed against the pane, E, the spring hook, C, is to be raised and its point forced down into the bar, D. Thus the hook, C, and the strut, B, will serve to support the candle stick and fasten it to the window sash.
Instead of the part, 6, having a candle socket, (4, applied to it such part, I), may be a portion of a lamp or be the stand or supporter of one and may have the strut and spring hook arranged and applied to it substantially as described.
I claim The improved lamp or candle stand as constructed with the strut, B, and the spring hook, C, arranged and applied to it substantially as and for the purpose specified.
