BUKATMAN ETAL BEDSPREAD WITH TOY DEVICES Filed Aug. 16, 1962 United States Patent 3,120,721 BEDSPREAD WITH TOY DEVICES Bernice Bukatman and Jerome Bukatman, both of 1170 Ocean Ave., Brooklyn, N.Y. Filed Aug. 16, 1962, Ser. No. 217,358 Claims. (Cl. 46-202) This invention relates to game and amusement devices for children, and more particularly to a game or amusement device with a bedspread motif.
Children spend so much time in bed that they become bed-minded and are very prone to use the bed for amusement. With this in mind, the present invention utilizes a bed as the backdrop for a game or amusement device for children.
An object of the invention is to provide a combined amusement device and game board associated with a bed and bedspread.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
FIG. 1 is a top perspective view of a miniature bed embodying a combined game and amusement device embodying the invention.
FIG. 2 is a view similar to FIG. 1 with parts removed.
FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 4 is a top perspective view of one of the seats shown in BIG. 1.
FIG. 5 is atop perspective view of the steering wheel and mount shown in FIG. 1.
Referring now to bedspread I110 shown in FIGS. 1 to 5, inclusive, the bedspread is rectangular in shape when spread out, including a main body portion 112, side portions 114 and front portion 116, the side and front portions being connected by folded corners 117. An extension 118 is secured to the rear edge of the main body portion 112 by stitching (not shown), which extension is draped over'the top of the rear panel 120 of the bed 122 and down the back thereof.
In accordance with the invention, on the top surface of the main body portion 112 at one end thereof, the rear end, miniature automobile driving equipment indicated generally at 124 is mounted. On the other or front end, a game board 126 simulating an automobile parking lot is mounted. The game board 126 may be hidden and protected by a fabric sheet constituting a cover 128 secured in position by female snap fastener elements 130 carried by the cover snapping over male snap fastener elements 131 on the top surface of the main body portion of the bedspread.
The automobile driving equipment 124 consists of a pair of automobile drivers seats 132 removably mounted in closely spaced relation on the top surface of the bedspread. Each seat consists of a rectangular-shaped fabric pad or sheet 134 with a rounded front end and straight rear end. On the bottom surface of the sheet 134 along the rounded edge thereof there are a series of male snap fastener elements 136. On the top surface of the rear edge thereof, there are a series of female snap fastener elements 138. A backrest in the form of a stuffed pad 140 is removably mounted on the rear edge of the sheet 134. The pad consists of a semiround casing 142 stuffed with stuffing material 144. A rectangular strip 146 of fabric material projects radially from the bottom of the casing and carries female snap fastener elements 148 on the bottom thereof.
The pad or sheet 134 is adapted to be secured to the 3,120,721 Patented Feb. 11, 1964 surface of the bedspread by snapping the fastener elements 136 into female snap fastener elements 137 mounted on the bedspread therebeneath. The base of the backrest is adapted to seat on the surface of the sheet 134 at the rear thereof, holding the backrest in upright position as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, and the snap fastener elements 148 coacting with the snap fastener elements 13.8 on the sheet 134 fasten the backrest to the sheet 134. The backrests are positioned close to the rear panel 120 of the bed. I
A steering wheel 154 in simulation of an automobile steering wheel is provided for selective mounting in front of either of the seats 132 of the pair of seats. The wheel is mounted on the vertical portion 156 of an angular post 158, the horizontal portion 160 thereof as viewed in FIG. 5 being formed with a pair of spaced round recesses 162. The horizontal portion 160- is adapted to be inserted under either one of the seats 132, preferably in line with the middle snap fasteners on the seat so that the snap fasteners will snap into the recesses 162 to hold the post in position, with the wheel 154 forward of the seat as shown in FIG. 1. A simulated lever 164 projects from the hub of the wheel outwardly of the periphery thereof. The steering wheel thus is mounted in position to be grasped by the child while sitting on the seat. While the child is amusing itself with the steering wheel, the cover 128 may remain in place, covering the game board 126.
With particular reference to FIG. 2, the game board 126 consists of a sheet 166 of rigid plastic resting loosely on the top surface of the bedspread .112. The sheet is cut and shaped to resemble a parking lot. Cut-away portions 163 are formed in the sheet to represent parking spaces for automobiles indicated at 170. The solid sections of the sheet between and around the parking spaces 168 represent driveways 17-2 and arrows 174 are formed on the surfaces of the driveways to indicate routes into and out of the parking spaces. A miniature automobile 176 is shown on one of the driveways to add to the reality of the scene and game.
When the cover 128 is removed and the steering wheel 15-4 is positioned in front of a seat 132, a child seated behind the wheel will have the parking lot in front which adds to the gaiety of the occasion.
In order to add to the attractiveness of the bedspread, a country scene 180 may be painted on the extension 118 so that it is viewable from the front.
The side panels 114, 114 may have representations of wheels 182 painted or otherwise formed therein.
A pair of pockets 184 are stitched on the front panel 116 and between the pockets is a representation of a tree 1 86 painted thereon. The pockets serve to store miniature automobiles 176. A female snap fastener element 188 is secured near each top corner of the front panel for receiving the male snap fastener elements 190 on a plastic cover 192 covering the front panel. The cover 192 is formed with latticework 194 representing the grillwork in the front of the engine of an automobile. Below the latticework there is an elongated strip 196 secured to the cover by adhesive or the like, simulating a bumper.
While we have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of our invention, it is to be understood that we do not limit ourselves to the precise constructions herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. An amusement device for children with a bedspread motif comprising, in combination, a rectangular-shaped fabric bedspread having a main body portion, side panel portions and a front panel portion, a sheet of fabric fastened to the front end of the main body portion, said sheet constituting a game board in simulation of-an auto- -mobile parking lot with cut-out spaces in the sheet representing automobile parking spaces, the material of the sheet representing driveways with guide arrows imprinted thereon, a miniature automobile in position on one of the driveways, a cover panel detachably mounted Y on the front panel portion, and spaced pockets on the front panel for storing miniature automobiles therein, said side panel. portions having representations of front and rear automobile wheels of an automobile imprinted thereon.
3. An amusement device for children with a bedspread motif comprising, in combination, a rectangular-shaped fabric bedspread having a main body portion, side panel portions and a front panel portion, a sheet of fabric fastened to the front end of the main body portion, said sheet constituting a game board in simulation of an automobileuparking lot with cut-out spaces in the sheet representing automobile parking spaces, the material of the, sheet representing driveways with guide arrows imprinted thereon, a miniature automobile in position on one of the driveways, a cover panel detachably mounted on the front panel portion, spaced pockets on the front panel for storing rniniature automobiles therein, said side panel portionshaving representations of front and rear automobile wheels of an automobile imprinted thereon, and a sheet of fabricfastened to the rear edge of the main body portion, said latter sheet constituting an extension of the bedspread and having a country scene imprinted thereon. w A

An amusement device for children with a bedspread motif comprising, in combinaton, a rectangular-shaped fabric bedspread having a main body portion, side panel portions and a front panel portion, a sheet of fabric fastened to the front end of the main body portion, said sheet'constituting a game board in simulation of an'automobile parking lot with cut-out spaces in the sheet representing automobile parking spaces, the material of the sheet representing driveways with guide arrows imprinted thereon, a miniature automobile in position on one of the driveways, a pair of sheets of fabric material substantially rectangular in shape detachably fastened on the top surface of the main body portion at the rear end thereof, said sheets'representing seats, upstanding pads detachably secured to the rear ends of the sheets, said pads serving as backrests, and a steering wheel with a post, and means for detachably securing the wheel and post to the front end of said seats.
5. An amusement device for children with a bedspread motif comprising, in combination, a rectangular-shaped fabric bedspread having a main body portion, side panel portions and'a front panel portion, a sheet of'fabric fastened to the front end of the main body portion, said sheet constituting a game board in simulation of an automobile parking lot with cut-out spaces in the sheet representing automobile parking spaces, the material of the sheet representing driveways with guide arrows imprinted thereon, a miniature automobile in position on one of the driveways, a pair of sheets of fabric material substantially rectangular in shape detachably fastened on the top surface of the main body portion at the rear end thereof, said sheets representing seats, upstanding pads post,; and means for detachably securing the wheel and post to the front end of said seats, said means including male snap fastener elements carried by the seats, said post including an upright portion and a horizontal portron, said horizontal portion having spaced recesses in the upper surface thereofadapted to receive the male snap fastener elements on the seats.

AN AMUSEMENT DEVICE FOR CHILDREN WITH A BEDSPREAD MOTIF COMPRISING, IN COMBINATION, A RECTANGULAR-SHAPED FABRIC BEDSPREAD HAVING A MAIN BODY PORTION, SIDE PANEL PORTIONS AND A FRONT PANEL PORTION, A SHEET OF FABRIC FASTENED TO THE FRONT END OF THE MAIN BODY PORTION, SAID SHEET CONSTITUTING A GAME BOARD IN SIMULATION OF AN AUTOMOBILE PARKING LOT WITH CUT-OUT SPACES IN THE SHEET
