(Si. 23d-10i) The present invention relates to condensers for gases and vapours and is a continuation-impart of my copending application No. 50,481 ied August 18, 1960.
ln the aforementioned copending application there is described, particularly with reference to .Fl-SURE l1, an embodiment of condenser particularly for use in diffusion pumps and comprising two spiral baile devices placed one above the other, in one of which a refrigerant, for example Freon circulates, while water circulates in the second device.
Experience has shown that in certain cases in diffusion pumps it is advantageous to mount the two baffles facing in opposite directions, that is to say back-to-back with their bases adjacent each other and their tips respectively one at the top of the chamber ln which they are contained and the other towards the lower part of this chamber.
in this case, once the oil being pumped has condensed, instead of being thrown to the circumference orr the bailles it goes, on the contrary, back towards the centre.
In order to avoid the effect of counter-diffusion of the vapour arising from the surface of the cap or" the upper ejector of the pump, according to the present invention a cover is joined thereto and is mechanically and thermally connected to the geometric tip of the lower baille.
This cover is made in such a way as to allow the evacuation of the condensed drops of oil through the internal wall of the body of the pump. It is preferably constructed in a similar way to that which has been described in United States patent application No. 65,477 filed by the applicant on October 27, 1960, for Improvements in Diffusion Pumps, now abandoned.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a View, partly in section, through one construction of apparatus according to this invention.
Referring to the drawing, 1 is the body of the diffusion pump in which is located the ejector 12. This ejector is provided with a cap 13 supported by a rod 14. 2 is the chamber where the two conical spiral balles 3 and 4 are located, and 5 is the conduit leading to a valve (not shown) and to the chamber to be evacuated. The chamber 2 is secured to the body 1 and to the conduit 5 by joining its edges to the edges of these two members, for example by means of nuts and bolts 6, with the interposition of vacuum-tight joints '7 and 8 of any suitable material. A cover 9 is mechanically Med by any suitable means and forms a thermal connection to the lower central part or tip of the lower baille 3.
According to the invention, this cover is constructed in such a way that its lower rim presents a series of projections or points 1li extending downwards, these points being extended by resilient ilne wires 11, for eX- ample of stainless steel, which are resiliently supported against the internal surface of the wall of the body 1 of the pump.

claim:
l. In a diffusion pump having a body in which is located an ejector adapted to he placed in communication with an enclosure to be evacuated, a tubular member mounted on the body and defining a chamber disposed above said ejector, a cover for said ejector located in said body, said cover having a rim formed with projections, wires or^ a resilient metal extending from said projections and adapted to engage with the body of the pump, and a conical spiral condenser located in said chamber and arranged with its tip directed downwardly and mechanically and thermally connected to the cover.
2. in a ditlusion pump having a body in which is located an ejector adapted to be placed in communication with an enclosure to be evacuated, a tubular member mounted on the body and defining a chamber disposed above said ejector, a cover for said ejector located in said body, said cover having a rim formed with projections, wires extending from said projections and adapted resiliently to engage with the body of the pump, a conical spiral condensing element located in said chamber and arranged with its tip directed downwardly and mechanically and thermally connected to the cover and a further similar conical spiral condensing element surmounting said first-mentioned condensing element and supported by the tubular member and arranged with its tip directed upwardly.
3. In a ditlusion pump having a body in which is l0- cated an ejector adapted to be placed in communication with an enclosure to be evacuated, a tubular member mounted on the body and defining a chamber disposed above said ejector, a cover for said ejector located in said body, a conical spiral condenser located in said chamber and supported by said tubular member and arranged with its tip directed downwardly and mechanically and thermally connected to the cover, and a further similar conical spiral condenser arranged above said first mentioned condenser and supported by said tubular member and having its tip pointing upwards.
4. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, in which the Wires are made of resilient stainless steel.
5. In a diffusion pump having a body in which is located an ejector, a cover for said ejector of which the rim is formed with a plurality of projections, wires of a resilient metal extending from said projections and resiliently engaging with the inner surface of the pump body and a condensing element mechanically and thermally connected to said cover Jfor condensing the vapour in said pump.

Claims (1)
1. IN A DIFFUSION PUMP HAVING A BODY IN WHICH IS LOCATED AN EJECTOR ADAPTED TO BE PLACED IN COMMUNICATION WITH AN ENCLOSURE TO BE EVACUATED, A TUBULAR MEMBER MOUNTED ON THE BODY AND DEFINING A CHAMBER DISPOSED ABOVE SAID EJECTOR, A COVER FOR SAID EJECTOR LOCATED IN SAID BODY, SAID COVER HAVING A RIM FORMED WITH PROJECTIONS, WIRES OF A RESILIENT METAL EXTENDING FROM SAID PROJECTIONS AND ADAPTED TO ENGAGE WITH THE BODY OF THE PUMP, AND A CONICAL SPIRAL CONDENSER LOCATED IN SAID CHAMBER AND ARRANGED WITH ITS TIP DIRECTED DOWNWARDLY AND MECHANICALLY AND THERMALLY CONNECTED TO THE COVER.
