Be it known that I, FRANCIS M. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at of Iowa, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Hens Nests; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention.

This invention has relation to improvements in hens nests.

The main object of the invention is to provide a hen-house containing a series of nests which will be cheap in construction and can be easily kept clean and ventilated, the partitions being so arranged that the compartments may be readily made small or large at will and the supplemental or movable floor taken out and replaced after cleaning without removing any of the parts of the house.

\Vith these ends in view I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device. Fig. 2 is a Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the partitions.

I11 carrying out my invention I employ a suitable frame, A, which is preferably of rectangular elongated form. The frame consists of a stationary bottom, a, top B, and ends or side wallsflb b. The top of this frame is provided on its under side with transverse grooves a, (there being but one shown in the drawings.) Secured to the respective corners of the frame are vertical strips d, which are provided on their adjacent sides with longitudinal grooves d, which extend their entire length, the lower ends of the said strips being a sufficient distance above the stationary bottom a for the insertion of the sliding or removable fioor-sections. Secured at the back of the frame to the top are vertical strips 0, which are provided in their sides with grooves b, and their lower or free ends are on the same horizontal plane as those of the cornerstrips d, to also engage the upper surface of the supplemental or removable floor-sections, the said grooved portions of the strips ex tending laterally with relation to the partitions when the latter are in their normal position. but one strip 0, but there may be any suitable number, according to the size of the house, and arranged in any desired space between the corner-strips joining the grooves c in the top.

In the present instance I have shown I3 indicates the removable vertical partitions, having secured at their outer vertical edges strips f. These strips are secured a short distance above the upper ends of the said partitions, and are also provided with lateral extensions having longitudinal vertical grooves similar to those of the other strips, and engage at their lower ends the upper surface of the supplemental floor-sections. Thus it will be seen that the vertically-grooved strips at the front of the frame are made fast to the partitions, while those at the rear are secured to the top of the frame, having their lower ends a sufficient distance above the stationary floor for the insertion of the removable or supplemental floor.

0 indicates the removable or supplemental floor-sections, which are arranged one for each nest or compartment in the house. These floor-sections are designed to slide above the stationary bottom a, as before described, and, being longer than the width of the main frame, will extend over its longitudinal edges to serve as a perch or rest for the hens. The said floor-sections are prevented from vertical and lateral play or displacement by the engagement of the vertical corner-strips and the strips 6 and f. The extensions of the supplemental floor-sections also serve as a rest or support for the closing slats or strips g, which may be provided with semicircular or other suitable openings for the admission of air and light to the house. The slats g are placed from above in the grooves of the vertical strips (1, e, andf, to close the nests.

Having thus described my invention, whatl claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination, with the frame A, constructed as described and provided with the vertically-grooved corner-strips d, of the intermediate vertically-grooved strip, 6, the top having a transverse groove arranged onits under side relatively at right angles to the said intermediate strip, c, the supplemental floor-sections, a transverse partition provided on its front edge with a vertically grooved strip, f, and the front and rear closing-slats,g, provided with ventilating-apertures, substantially as specified.
