Description

E. HfPARKER.
Co unter Scale s. I
Patented May 26. 1843;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELIPHALET H. PARKER, OF BUCKSPORT, MAINE.
COUNTER-SCALE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 3,112, dated May 26, 1843.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIPHALET H. PARKER, of Bucksport, in the county of Hancock and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement on Counter-Scales for .Veighing Small Articles of h/Ierchandise, &c., which are less cumbersome and more convenient than those heretofore used; and I do declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- A, is the frame.
B, is a bar, crossing the frame A, on which it rests, by the bearing edges 1, 1, to which bar the scale beam is attached.
C, is a beam attached to the bar B.
D is a frame moving freely within frame A, and bearing on the same at one end, at the edges 2, 2, and at the other end hearing on the ends of the connecting bar E, at s, 3.
E, is a connecting bar with an aperture, or groove, in each end through which aperture, or on which groove, the end of frame I), is fitted; which bar is so bent, that the middle of the same may bear on the bar B, at 4:.
F, F, are cradles resting on projections from the inner side of frame D, at 5, 5, 5, 5, on which cradles, hods are placed, and kept upright, by supporting wires G and H at the bottom. a
G is a small rod connecting with bolts extending from each crade F, F, towardthe bottom of the frame, in such a manner as to play freely. H, is a small rod, passing from one corner of frame A, through an aperture in the rod G, to the opposite corner of the same end of frame A, in such a manner as to move freely.
I, I, are hods (in which articles to be weighed are placed, the large hod for such as are required to be weighed by pounds and parts, and the small one for ounces and parts) resting on cradles F, F. Articles placed in either of these hods, cause the end of the frame D to bear on bar E, which with the same preponderance presses on bar B and raises the scalebeam C, with a force corresponding with the weight or gravity of the articles.
lVhat- I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The frame D, and the connecting bar E, bearingon the bar B causing the bar C, to be ralsed, in manner above described, by the pressure of the end of the frame D, which is an improvement on counter scales or balances now in use, as they may be constructed by this invention smaller and more convenient.
