IMPROVEMENT IN SEED-DRILLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 31,105, dated January 15, 1861.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. H. BEAN, of Forreston, in the county of Ogle and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Seed-Drill; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side sectional view of my invention,taken in theline mrc,Fig.2; Fig.2, atransverse vertical section of the same, taken in the line y y, Fig. 1; Fig. 3, an inverted plan of the same; Figs. 4 and 5, detached sectional views of the two hoppers, taken respectively in the planes 2 z z 2', Fig. 1.

To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
A represents a rectangular frame, which is mounted on Wheels or rollers B B, and has a drivers seat, 0, placed longitudinally upon it. The rollers B B are placed on separate axles a a, and are therefore allowed to rotate independently of each other.
On the back part ofthe frame A there is placed. a cross-bar, b, said bar being directly back of the rollers B B, and having two V- shaped scrapers, attached one directly back of each roller. The form of the scrapers is shown clearly in Fig. 2. By referring to this figure it will be seen that the scrapers are formed of quite narrow metal bars, and by referring to Figs. 1 and 3 it will be seen that the scrapers are curved corresponding to the curvature of the rollers, and the outer edges of the scrapers are in contact with the rollers or are quite close thereto.
To the front end of the frame A there is attached by pivots c c a frame, E, which is allowed to work freely on its pivots c c. On the frame E there are placed two seed-hoppers, F G. These seed-boxes extend the whole width of the frame F. 7
.ln the seed-hopper F there is placed a shaft, H, which is armed with radial teeth 11. This shaft is rotated by a belt, e, from the axis of one of the rollers B. To the under side of the hopper F there are attached vertical tubes f, each tube being in line with a perforation of the plate (1. The

The V-shaped scrapers D D,in consequence of being constructed as shown, effectually scrape the dirt from the rollers B B. The dirt cannot clog or choke the scrapers, as is the case where the solid-plate scrapers are used.
I do not claim the stationary and adjustable perforated plates 01 e at the bottom of hopper F, for they have been used nor do I claim the rotating toothed shaft H in the hopperF; but
I do claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The arrangement of the independentlypivoted frame A and rollers B with the frame E, seed apparatus F G H J K, tubes f, and curved. bars 9, as and for the purpose herein shown and described 2. ,In combination with the above, the employment of the curved V-shaped scrapers D upon the rollers B, as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
