SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 310,864, dated January 13, 1885.
Application filed June 17, 1834. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom/it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN MASON and GEORGE W. WINsOR, of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented an Improvement in Frying-Pans, of which the following is a speciiication.
Our invention consists in the improved double construction of the frying-pan,whereby the steam and vapors arising from the cooking materials will be drawn away and pass into the flue of the stove, as hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of our iniproved frying-pan. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the outer portion of the fryingpan, provided with a handle, B, for convenient manipulation, and having a circular opening, C, at its bottom, provided with an encircling downwardly-turned iiange, c, adapted to iit the kettle-hole in the top plate of a stove. The inner portion, D, is made separately from the outer portion, A, and may be provided with one or more spouts, b, as usual in fryingpans, and the relative diameters of the portions A and D are such that when secured one within the other, as shown in the drawings, there will be left an'annular space, c, preferably of about one-eighth of an inch in width, between the parts A and D, the bottoni of the parts being also similarly separated from each Y other, so as to form a continuous air-passage either of the parts, washers of suitable thickness encircling the rivets g maybe employed. The outer portion, A, is made higher than 4the inner portion, D, and is provided with a vertical notch, h, adapted to receive thespout b of the inner portion, D, and the two parts of the frying-pan may be made either of castiron or sheet metal, as desired. The handle B may also be separately formed and attached to either the outer or inner portion of the frying-pan.
Ve are aware that it is not new to inclose a fryingpan in an outer case for the purpose of drawing the steam and vapor into the flue of the stove 5 but heretofore such outer case and frying-pan have been made removable from each other, and have not been adapted for use in a single utensil.
XVe claim as our invention- The combination of the outer portion, A, provided with the notch h, with the attached inner portion, D, provided with the spout b, adapted to enter the notch h, and having a oontinuous air-space, c, between the inner and outer portions, substantially as described.
JOHN MASON. GEORGE YV. VINSOR.
