\NATER-CLOSET SEAT.
EPECXLPICATZQN iorming part of Letters Patent No. 310,401, dated January 6, 1885.
Application filed May 9,1884.
(X0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MELCHIOR FOX, 0f Eau Claire, in the county of Eau Claire and State of Visconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in ater-Closet Seats, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved wator-closet seat. Fig. 2 is a transverse central section, and Fig. 3 an enlarged perspective view, of one-half of the seat folded for transportation.
The present invention relates to an improve ment in water-closet attachments for the use of persons when traveling or staying at hotels, so that the user will always have a clean. and not be obliged to come in contact with a dirty, seat, or one that, although apparently clean, may be unfit for a cleanly person to come in contact with; and it consists offour pieces hinged together with a central opening, and so arranged as to fold up, all of which will now be fully set forth in detail.
In the drawings, A are four sections formed of any suitable material, preferably of wood. These'parts are joined together, so as to form a square. A pair of hinges, B, are secured 011 the under surface over thejoints C at opposite sides of the seat. This permits each two of the sections to fold over together, as
shown in Fig. 2. Thejoints D,at right angles to the joints 0, have hinges E secured thereto. The joints of these hinges are secured within one of the straps, while they fit loosely within the opposite strap, so that the sections are readily detachable from each other, thus forming independent halves. An opening, G, is provided centrally within the sections, theinner side of each of the sections forming a seg ment of the opening.
In order that the sections may not rest upon the closetscat, I provide screws "H with the heads extending downward and projecting somewhat.
What I claim is In combination, an adjustable water-closet seat formed in sections and with an opening centrally, two of the joints in the same plane provided with hinges, the joints at right angles having slide-hinges so as to form detachable independent halves, and with projecting screws or lugs beneath, the whole arranged as and for the purpose substantially as herein set forth. V
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, this 28th day of April, 1884-, in the presence of witnesses.
M ELGI-IIOR FOX.
