Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELIHU \VOLF, OF NORTH VERNON, INDIANA.
NECK-YOKE CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 310,351, dated January 6, 1885.
Application filed April 30, 1884. (ModeL) To all whom, it 11mg concern.-
Be it known that I, ELIHU VVOLF, of North Vernon, in the county of Jennings and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Neck-Yoke Clamp, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved clamp for holding a neckyoke on the end of a pole in such a manner that it can easily swing vertically and laterally on the end of the pole.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement ofparts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similarletters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 1s a perspective view of my improved neck-yoke clamp and of the end of the pole. Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of the neck-yoke and its clamp and a longitudinal sectional view of the end of the pole.
On the front end of the vehicle-pole A a ferrule, B, is secured which is provided near its inner end with an annular ridge, 0. The for rule is slightly tapered. A tapered sleeve, D, fitting on the ferrule B, is provided at its front end with an upwardly-projecting neck, E, having an inclined top, E, provided with a central aperture. The semicircular clampsection F is provided at its lower end with a hollow neck, G, and at its upper end with a flange, H. The other semicircular clampsection, J, is also provided at its upper end with flange K, and at its lower end with a curved prong, L, adapted to catch on an inwardlyprojecting ridge, I, on the top edge of the front of the neck G. The neck G is provided in its bottom with a circular recess and with an aperture at the center of the said recess, and the neck E is provided on the upper side of its top with a circular projection fitting in the circular recess in the bottom of the neck G. The neck-yoke M is placed against the clamp-section F. The other clamp-section, J, is placed against the opposite side of the neck end of the said bolt is passed through the top of the neck E, and a nut, P, is screwed on the said end of the bolt within the neck E, thus holding the neck-yoke clamp on the sleeve D. The sleeve D can turn on the ferrule B, thus permitting the neck-yoke to swing in the vertical plane, and as the neck-yoke clamp is swiveled to the neck E by the bolt 0 the neckyoke can turn freely on the said bolt, thus permitting of holding the neck-yoke at any desired inclination to the pole.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with a neck-yoke clamp having a downwardly-projecting neck, ofa
sleeve provided with an upwardly-projecting neck, and of a bolt passed through the neck on the clamp and the neck on the sleeve, whereby the clamp is swiveled on the sleeve, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In a neck-yoke clamp, the combination, with the clampsection F, having a neck, G, a flange, H, and ridge I, and the section J, ha ing a flange, K, and a prong, L, of the bolt 0 and the sleeve D, having a neck, E, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. In a neck-yoke clamp, the combination, with a clamp having a neck, G, provided in its bottom with a circular recess, of a sleeve having an upwardly-proj ecting neck provided on its end with a circular projection fitting in the recess in the bottom of the neck on the clamp, and of a bolt passed through the neck on the clamp and the neck on the sleeve, substantially as herein shown and described.
