Fort Foote Terrace, Washington 22, D.C. Filed Apr. 15, 1960, Ser. No. 22,618 3 Claims. (Cl. 124-30) This invention relates to a device used in archery, and may be termed a bow holder. The primary object of this invention is the provision of a device adapted to be used by an archer, including means engaging a selected finger of the bow hand and the thumb, in combination with a resilient band which is adapted to encircle a bow. The arrangement is thus such that the bow may be extended by the archers left arm by a straight pushing action, thus obviating the necessity of a tight grasp on the bow, and consequently by rendering the bow gripping hand more sensitive by reason of the lack of tenseness, improve the archers aim.
An additional object of the invention is the provision of such a device which will restrain the bow when the string is released so that the same will be held in the archers hand, without the necessity of a tight grip on the bow to retain the same.
An additional object of the invention is the provision of such a device which may be individually fitted to the archers fingers to provide a maximum of comfort, and which will in no way impair the circulation if worn for extended periods of time, since the only tension exerted on the device, due to the construction of the finger engaging means is exerted at the time the bow is actually loosed.
An additional object of the invention is the provision of such a device which may be simply and inexpensively manufactured, which is sturdy and durable in construction, reliable and etficient in operation, and relatively simple to utilize.
Still other objects reside in the combinations of elements, arrangements of parts, and features of construction, all as will be more fully pointed out hereinafter, and disclosed in the accompanying drawing, wherein there is shown a preferred embodiment of this inventive concept.

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of this invention shown as applied to the hand of a bowman, the bow being indicated in position relative to the device in dotted lines.
FIGURE 2 is a rear elevational view of the device of FIG. 1.
FIGURE 3 is a front elevational view of the device of FIGS. 1 and 2.
FIGURE 4 is an enlarged sectional view taken substantially along the line 44 of FIG. 3.
FIGURE 5 is a plan view similar to FIG. 3 of a modified form of construction; and
FIGURE'6 is a view similar to FIGS. 3 and 5 showing a still further modified form of construction.
Having reference now to the drawings in detail, the device of the instant invention, generally indicated at 10, comprises two opposed finger engaging means 11 and 12, which are substantially identical in construction. Each device 11 and 12 comprises an annular rim 13 and 14,
at an angle, so that they embrace the fingers relatively loosely, except when the bow B is pressed forwardly by the hand H against the strap 20. When the bowstring is released, the bow B may spring forwardly, even though not grasped tightly by the hand, but will be effectively restrained by the strap 20. At this time the angular inclination of the rings 13 and 15 will engage their respective digits, to prevent the device from being pulled from the hand of the user, and the bow will thus be effectively restrained against escaping the users grip even though lightly held.
FIG. 5 shows a slightly modified form of construction wherein the members 11 and 12 are identical to those previously described, and provided with openings 17 and 18,
respectively. In this modification, however, the resilient band 20 is replaced by an extruded flexible, semi-resilient plastic member 30, which is provided at its ends with relatively flat buttons 31, which are compressed to pass through the openings 17 and 18, the member 30 being employed in exactly the same way as the band 20 and serving the same function.
FIG. 6 shows a still further modification wherein end pieces 11a and 12a provided with projections 15a and 16a are substantially identical to the preceding modification. However, in this modification the device is formed integrally with a strip 35- of the same material serving to connect the two end pieces, and serving the same function as the previously described elastic band 20.
From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided an improved device for restraining a bow even though grasped lightly, thus facilitating direction and aiming of the arrow, which accomplishes all the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiments hereinbefore shown and described, it is tobe understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative, and not in a limiting sense.
-I claim:
1. An archery device for restraining a bow when held loosely by the bow hand, comprised of a pair of digit engaging rings, one adapted to engage a selected fiinger of the bow hand and the other the thumb, and elastic means connecting said rings, said rings being tubular and having their ends cut on a bias to the longitudinal axis of the tube with the ends parallel to form inclined tubular rings, said rings inclining oppositely and converging toward their connection with said elastic and dimensioned loosely to engage the digists except when pressure is exerted on said elastic means.

The rings 13 and 14 may be suitably dimensioned to engage the first or middle finger of the bow hand, as shown in FIG. 1 and the thumb, and are fitted to size so that they encircle the relative digits comparatively loosely when in relaxed or inoperative position.

Claims (1)

1. AN ARCHERY DEVICE FOR RESTRAINING A BOW WHEN HELD LOOSELY BY THE BOW HAND, COMPRISED OF A PAIR OF DIGIT ENGAGING RINGS, ONE ADAPTED TO ENGAGE A SELECTED FINGER OF THE BOW HAND AND THE OTHER THE THUMB, AND ELASTIC MEANS CONNECTING SAID RINGS, SAID RINGS BEING TUBULAR AND HAVING THEIR ENDS CUT ON A BIAS TO THE LONGITUDINAL AXIS OF THE TUBE WITH THE ENDS PARALLEL TO FORM INCLINED TUBULAR RINGS, SAID RINGS INCLINING OPPOSITELY AND CONVERGING TOWARD THEIR CONNECTION WITH SAID ELASTIC AND DIMENSIONED LOOSELY TO ENGAGE THE DIGITS EXCEPT WHEN PRESSURE IS EXERTED ON SAID ELASTIC MEANS.
