UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSIAH K. PROCTOR, OF FHILADELPHIi-X, PENNSYLVANIA.
WINDOW-SCREEN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No 310,312, dated January 6, 1885.
Application filed April 17, 1884. (No model.)
To al whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnur K. lnoo'ron, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in \Vindow-Screens, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to so construct a window-screen and its guides that while said screen is held firmly in position by said guides when in use, it can be readily removed when necessary without disturbing the guides; and this object I attain in the manner hereinafter set forth, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is avertieal section illustrating the application of my invention to an ordinary window; Fig. 2, a sectional plan on the line 1 2, Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a sectional perspective view of part of the screen and one of its guides, and Fig. 4. a sectional view showing the application of the screen to a window having but a single sash.
The screen shown in Figs. 1. and 21's similarin construction to that shown and described in an application filed by me on the 13th day of September, 1888, Serial No, 106,317, pat-- ented May 6, 1884, No. 298,311.
A represents a window-frame, and 13 ll the upper and lower sashes, and to the outer sash guiding-strips, a, of the frame are attached grooved guides Z), for the opposite side bars of the frames of a series of screens, D, D, and D, which bear upon the rails of the outer sash, and serve to screen the window-opening, in whatever position said sash may be placed, as fully described in the above-mentioned application. Each of the screens D, D, and D is considerably less in height than the height of the window-opening when the sashes are both raised or both lowered to the full extent,
placed; but on raising said lower section of screen until it is in line with the recess it can be readily withdrawn, after which the upper sections maybe lowered and likewise withdrawn, the reinscrtion of the sections, when necessary, being effected with equal facility.
I n Fig. 4 I have shown the application of my invention to a window-framchaving a single sash-sueh, forinstance, as acar-windowbut two sections of screen bcingused in this case.
I claim as my invention The combination of a wimlmv-I'rame and its sash or sashes, with ascreen composed of two or more sections, each less in height than the height of the window-opening when the sash is fully raised, and with a guide recessed for the removal of the sereen-sections therefrom, the bottom of the recess being above the sill oi the frame, as set forth.
In testimony whereoi'I have signed my name to this specification in theprescnce of two subscribing witnesses.
JOSIAH K. PROU'IOR.
