Description

Aug. 6, 1963 J. P. MATRANGA WINDOW STRUCTURE Filed July 17, 1961 United States Patent 013 ice 3,099,866 Patented Aug. 6, 1963 3,099,866 WINDOW STRUCTURE Joseph P. Matranga, P.0. Box 86, Ossining, N.Y. Filed July 17, 1961, Ser. No. 124,526 1 Claim. (CI. 20-48) This invention relates to windows and more particularly to a sash type window.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a sash type Window having individual panes movable into the interior of the room for cleaning and maintenance purposes.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a sash type window of the type described which is extremely simple to install in standard frames, and which can be readily serviced whenever required without requiring access to the exterior of the building.
All of the foregoing and still further'objects and advan tages of this invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a window assembly made in accordance with the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is an enlarged exploded fragmentary perspective view of certain operating parts of the present invention; and
FIGURE 3 is an enlarged fragmentary cross sectional view taken along line 33 of FIGURE 1.
Referring now to the drawing, a window assembly made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a window frame 11 having guideways slidably receiving a pair of window sashes 12 for reciprocating longitudinal movement.
Each sash 12 is provided with a frame 14 hingedly mounted within an opening 15 thereof upon a hinge assembly 16 for selective movement between a normally coplanar position with the sash and an angularly related position therewith for cleaning both sides of the window pane 18 carried thereby from within the interior of the building.
Each frame 14 is provided with a hinge pin 20 which is normally received within vertically spaced apart recesses in one side of the sash 12, and which pin 20 may be removed in response to adjustment of a lock screw 22 threadedly mounted within a fitting 24 secured to the bottom of each sash 12. Thus, whenever it is desired to remove the entire frame 14, it is only necessary to thread the screw 22, thus raising the pin 20 outwardly through the opening 26 in the top of the sash, thus making it possible to withdraw such pin 20 and to remove the frame 14 from the sash.
Each frame 14 is also provided with a latch mechanism 28 for securing the frame in the normally secured position within the sash.
While this invention has been described with particular reference to the construction shown in the drawing, it is to be understood that such is not to be construed as imparting limitations upon the invention, which is best defined by the claim appended hereto.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A window assembly comprising, in combination, a frame having a pair of vertically disposed guideways in each side thereof, a pair of rectangular sashes each slidable in one of the guideways, and each defining an opening to be closed by a glass pane and a recess in one face thereof encircling the opening, each sash being larger than one half of the frame to provide overlying ends when the sashes are moved away from each other to fully close such frame, a pair of glass panes, a pair of panel frames each encircling one of the glass panels and supported in one of the recesses, one side of each panel frame forming a hinge, with the adjacent side of the sash supporting such panel frame, latch means releasably connecting the side of each panel opposite the hinge to the adjacent sash side, a pin vertically disposed through each hinge, a fitting disposed in the bottom of each sash and having an opening aligned with the hinge pin thereof, and a pair of members each threaded into the opening of one of the fittings to retain the aligned pin in place.
