According to the invention there is provided a paper, plastic or glassine bag adapted to contain a plurality of pieces of candy, toys, trinkets, confections or the like. The bag is provided with a disk insert at the bottom thereof adapted to stiffen the bottom and provide a flat, rigid or semirigid base whereby the bag remains in an upright position when filled with candy or other articles. The bag has its top opening bunched together and secured in a closed position by a foil tab and staple. A flexible fiber covered wire such as a pipe cleaner extends through the neck of the bag and terminates in a toy head adapted to serve as a handle for the bag. The knob toy head may be that of a clown, pirate or the like. Another pipe cleaner is tied around the waist of the bag and its ends simulate arms in which may be engaged a further toy or trinket. In assembled form the package resembles a figurine toy having a very amusing and entertaining appearance.

It is therefore a principal object of the invention to provide a package for candy or the like in the form of a toy figurine.

It is another object to provide a bag of candy or other articles having a handle secured adjustably thereto by pliable wire and having a further pliable wire engaged around the bag and holding it closed.

A still further object is to provide a package including a bag made of film material stiffened at the bottom by a flat disk, a pliable wire tied around the bag to form a constricted waist and closure, a tab and staple over the top of the bag to conceal the top thereof, a second wire extending through the top of the bag and a handle in the form of a head of a toy figure secured to the second wire.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Referring to FIGS. 1-3, there is shown a package 10 including a bag 12 formed of clear or colored transparent paper or plastic material. The bag has a closed bottom and open top. At the bottom of the bag is disposed a flat circular or oval disk 14 made of cardboard or the like. The disk is shown to best advantage in FIG. 6. In the bag are a number of pieces 16 of candy, toys or other articles. The top 17 of the bag is bunched or gathered together to form a constricted waist and closure 20 secured by a pliable, fiber covered wire 18 of the type generally known as a pipe cleaner.

The upper bunched end 17 of the bag is covered and concealed by a tab 24. This is a circular, colored foil member bent across a diameter to semicircular form.

States Patent "ice The top of the bent member defines a ridge 26 extending substantially parallel to the bottom disk 14. A wire staple 21 passes through both semicircular sections of the tab securing them to opposite sides of the bag at the top thereof. A further fiber covered wire or pipe cleaner 25 is bent to a generally hooked form at its lower end which is disposed below the waist in the bag. The upper end of the wire 25 extends through a hole 27 in the ridge 26 and is secured to a toy head 30. In FIGS. 1-3 the free upper end 29 of the wire 25 terminates in a knot 31 at the apical top end of the conical hat 32 on the clowns head 30. An intermediate section 33 of the wire defines a neck which can be bent in various ways to dispose the head 30 at any desired angle to the bag. The package 10 thus presents the appearance of a toy figurine filled with confections. One or both ends 19 of the wire 18 can be bent or knotted to retain a toy or trinket 23 such as a whistle thereon. The ends 19 will simulate arms of the figure.

FIG. 4 shows another package 10 constructed like package 10 with corresponding parts similarly numbered. The pirates head 50 has a simulated pirates hat 32 secured thereon. The upper end of wire 25 passes through a hole 35 in the hat and is crossed or knotted at 31 to secure the hat and head to the wire. A simulated sword 23 is held by one coiled end 19 of wire 18. Disk 14 may have its ends bent downwardly to form legs.

The free hooked end 25 of wire 25 may be extended upwardly as shown in FIG. 3 to stiffen the support for the head and may then be extended laterally as shown at 25 to stiffen the ridge 26.

In FIG. 5 are shown the several parts of the package 10 in partially assembled form. The top 17 of the bag is shown open for insertion of wire 25 and then the wire 18 may be twisted around the open top of the bag to effect a closure thereof. The bent tab will then be seated on the bunched closed top of the bag and secured thereat by staple 21. The staple 21 may be disposed to engage the

33 and 25 to prevent lateral movement thereof with respect to the bag. Then the free top end 29 of the wire 25 may be passed through the head 30 and brought out through the hole 35 in hat 32 to lock the head and hat thereon. The knot 31 will preferably be made in a decorative fashion.

In assembled form the package may serve as a toy per so. When the package i opened, its several parts may serve as further toys and confections to delight and amuse the child recipient.

In FIG. 7, the toy head 30 is mounted on a stick 36 which may be made of wood, plastic or any other suitable material. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to the previous form and similar parts may be recognized by corresponding reference numerals.

While we have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of our invention, it is to be understood that we do not limit ourselves to the precise constructions herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invent-ion as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

l. A package of confections comprising a bag made of filmy material, and having an outwardly flaring bottom, said bag being partially filled by said confections, a first pliable wire encircling the exterior of the bag and effecting a closure of one end thereof, a second pliable wire extending longitudinally inside of the bag through said one end, one end of said second wire etxending outwardly of the bag, a toy head secured to an outer free end of said second wire, the first wire being twisted around the bag and having its free ends simulating arms of a toy figure, the second Wire having an intermediate pliable section :at the top end of the bag whereby said toy head can be disposed at a selected angle to the bag, a circular tab bent diametrically and seated on the closed top end of the bag to. conceal the said top end, a staple securing said tab to the bag and to the second Wire, and a semirigid disk disposed at the flaring bottom of the b ag inside the bag to provide a support for holding the bag in an upright position, said second wire being in book form to provide a doubled rigid support for said head, said other end of the second wire extending laterally under the bend in said tab to reinforce the same.

2. In a package of confections a bag of filmy material having a closed bottom and an open top, .a closure for the open top comprising a first pliable Wire covered with fibrous material extensible longitudinally of said package through the open top end thereof, a toy head secured to upper end of the wire, said end of the Wire being pliable so that the head is disposable thereon at a selected angle to the other end of the wire, a semi-circular tab having bent-over spaced parallel sides and having a central perforation, said upper end of the wire extending through the perforation in the tab, said upper end of the wire defining a neck and said tab defining underneath said toy head simulated shoulders of a toy figure, and a second pliable fiber covered wire twisted around the outside of the bag adjacent its top and having laterally extending portions defining simulated arms of said toy figure, a central portion of the second wire defining a loop engaging the material of the bag for closing the same.

In a package of confections, a 'bag of filmy material having a flared closed bottom and open top, the bottom of the bag being reinforced by a piece of separate material, a closure for the open top comprising a vertically disposed supporting member extending longitudinal-1y of said package through the top end thereof, a toy head secured to one end of the supporting member, a semi-circular tab having lbent-over spaced parallel sides and having a central perforation therein, said upper end of the supporting member extending through the perforation in the tab, said upper end of the supporting member defining a neck and said tab defining underneath said toy head simulated shoulders of a toy figure, and pliable fiber covered wire twisted around the outside of the bag and the supporting member and having laterally extending portions defining simulated arms of said toy figure, a central portion of the Wire defining a loop engaging the material of the open end of the bag 'for closing the same and a rivet extending through the spaced parallel sides of the semi-circular tab and the closed mouth of the bag, the prongs of the rivet being on each side of the vertically disposed supporting member.

Claims

1. A PACKAGE OF CONFECTIONS COMPRISING A BAG MADE OF FIMLY MATERIAL, AND HAVING AN OUTWARDLY FLARING BOTTOM, SAID BAG BEING PARTIALLY FILLED BY SAID CONFECTIONS, A FIRST PLIABLE WIRE ENCIRCLING THE EXTERIOR OF THE BAG AND EFFECTING A CLOSURE OF ONE END THEREOF, A SECOND PLIABLE WIRE EXTENDING LONGITUDINALLY INSIDE OF THE BAG THROUGH SAID ONE END, ONE END OF SAID SECOND WIRE EXTENDING OUTWARDLY OF THE BAG, A TOY HEAD SECURED TO AN OUTER FREE END OF SAID SECOND WIRE, THE FIRST WIRE BEING TWISTED AROUND THE BAG AND HAVING ITS FREE ENDS SIMULATING ARMS OF A TOY FIGURE, THE SECOND WIRE HAVING AN INTERMEDIATE PLIABLE SECTION AT THE TOP END OF THE BAG WHEREBY SAID TOY HEEAD CAN BE DISPOSED AT A SELECTED ANGLE TO THE BAG, A CIRCULAR TAB HEAT DIAMETRICALLY AND SEATED ON THE CLOSED TOP END OF THE BAG TO CONCEAL THE SAID TOP END, A STAPLE SECURING SAID TAB TO THE BAG AND TO THE SECOND WIRE, AND A SEMIRIGID DISK DISPOSED AT THE FLARING BOTTOM OF THE BAG INSIDE THE BAG TO PROVIDE A SUPPORT FOR HOLDING THE BAG IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION, SAID SECOND WIRE BEING IN HOCK FORM TO PROVIDE A DOUBLED RIGID SUPPORT FOR SAID HEAD, SAID OTHER END OF THE SECOND WIRE EXTENDING LATERALLY UNDER THE BEND IN SAID TAN TO REINFORCE THE SAME.
