Description
y 1-963 1. D. KUHLMAN 3,096,867
CORRECTION OF TYPED ERRORS ON CARBON COPIES Filed June 25, 1962 INVENTOR JWMW United states Patent Gfiice 3,096,867 CORRECTIQN OF TYPE!) ERRORS N CARBON COPIES Irene Dorsey Kuhlman, 121 S. Osage, Sedalia, M0. Filed June 25, 1962, Ser. No. 204,713 3 Claims. (Cl. 197-131) This invention relates generally to the correction of typing errors on carbon copies.
An important object of the invention is the provision of means Where-by typing errors on carbon copies may be quickly, easily, and neatly corrected.
This and other objects and advantages of my invention will more fully appear from the following description with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
FIGURE 1 is a side view in section showing the arrangement of the several parts of the invention; and
FIGURE 2 is a front view of the invention shown in FIGURE 1.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, wherein like reference characters denote the same or similar parts throughout the two views, 1 is a conventional blockout or masking correction tape similar to that commonly used in the correction of typing errors made on an original or ribbon copy, the tape having on its outer face a masking ink formulation or the like of the same color as that of the original or carbon copy sheets. This tape is mounted by any conventional means 2, which means may be, for example, an adhesive, Scotch tape, or interengaging perforations, on the back or rear surface of aconventional sheet of carbon paper 3 having a marking surface on one side thereof. The tape extends the full width of the carbon paper adjacent and parallel to one edge, as shown in the drawing, with the ink surface of the blockout tape disposed oppositely from the marking surface of said carbon paper. The width of the blockout tape should be greater than the height of the type characters used in a conventional typewriter. Tabs 4, which may be of cardboard or heavy paper, are attached by any convenient means to the longitudinal ends of the blockout correction tape 1.
In use, the carbon paper 3 is inserted in the normal way between an original and a carbon copy sheet, the blockout tape being located at the head or top of said sheets when disposed in a typewriter. When an error is made the typist backspaces the typerwriter until the error is opposite the printing point. Then by means of tabs 4, the typist turns the carbon paper downwardly to place the correction side of the tape firmly against and in registra- 3,095,857 Patented July 9, 1963 tion with the aforementioned error, the aforesaid registration being aided by the alignment of said tabs with the line in the original also containing said error. A similar blockout tape is then placed over the error in the original in a known manner and the erroneous letter is again struck, thereby causing the simultaneous deposit of the masking ink formulation or the like, carried by said blockout tapes on both the original and the carbon copy, whereby the error is completely masked or obliterated. Upon removal of the blockout tapes and backspacing again the typist can now type the correct letter.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. In combination, a sheet of carbon paper having a marking surface and a rear surface, and a blockout correction tape having tabs at the longitudinal ends and a masking ink formulation on one surface thereof, said tape being attached to the rear surface of said carbon paper adjacent to and in parallel relationship with one edge of said carbon paper, said one surface facing in a direction opposite from said marking surface.
2. In combination, a sheet of carbon paper having a marking surface and a rear surface, and a blockout correction tape having masking ink formulation on one surface thereof, said tape being attached to the rear surface of said carbon paper adjacent to and along one edge of said carbon paper, said one surface facing in a direction opposite from said marking surface.
3. In combination, a sheet of carbon paper having a marking surface and a rear surface, a blockout correction tape having masking ink formulation on one surface thereof, said tape being attached to the rear surface of said carbon paper adjacent to and along one edge of said carbon paper, said one surface facing in a direction opposite =fro1n said marking surface, and means for facilitating movement of the blockout correction tape into operative position.
