ISAAC A. MARTIN, OF OURAY, COLORADO.
MHNERS IMPLEMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 309,637, dated December 23,1884.
Application filed October 2, 1884. (Model.)
T0 (tZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC A. MARTIN, of Ouray, in the county of Ouray and State of Colorado, have invented a new and Improved Miners Implement, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved miners tool orimplement to be used for cutting fuses, setting caps, and digging holes in powdercharges or giant powder candles.
The invention consists of the combination of parts and their construction, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a face view of my improved miners implement, the same being closed. Fig. 2 is a face view of a modification opened.
Two levers, A and A, are pivoted together by a pivot, B, to form a pair of pliers in the usual manner, the upper ends of the levers being flattened, overlapped, and provided with cutting-edges O, in the same manner as scissors, this part of the implement serving to cut fuses of all kinds. Each cutting-edge is provided with a small triangular or other notch, a, which are used for cutting the cop per conductors in electric fuses.
If desired, the upper or cutting ends of the levers can be arranged as nippers, as is shown in Fig. 2. A short distance below the pivot a semicircular notch, D, is formed in the inner edge of each lever, a small. pin or stud, E, projecting from the bottom of one notch. The lower end of the handle part of one lever is bent outward and made straight, to form a punch, F, for forcing a hole into a charge of powder or into a giant-powder candle, into which hole the cap is then placed.
To fasten the end of a fuse in a cap the fuse is inserted in the cap, and the cap placed in one of the notches D, and the lovers forced together, whereby the cap will be pressed on the end of the fuse, and the pin E forces part of the side of the cap into the fuse.
Having thus described my invention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1's
1. The combination-tool comprising the levcrs with their upper cutting-edges provided with opposite notches, and their lower inner edges having opposite recesses, one having a puncturer, thehandle end of one lever having a punch, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a combinationtool, the levers having their upper cutting edges provided with opposite notches, and their lower inner edges provided with opposite recesses, one having a puncturer, the outer or handled end of one lever having a punch consisting of a cylindric arm formed upon said lever, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
