i-iAwi E ATTACH maar.
SPECEPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 309,129, dated December 9, 1884.
(No model.)
io attachment for harness, and the novelty consists in the construction, arrangement, andl adaptation of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth, and specifically pointed out in the claims. f 15 The essential object of the invention is to provide an attachment for haines which shall carry the holdback-ring and tug or draft attachment which shall be inexpensive of manufacture, efficient and desirable in service, and easily applied to the wood-work of ordinary hames, and one which will embrace and be secured to the said wood-work without puncturing it or diminishing its strength.
The invention is illustrated in the accompaf nying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure l is a perspective View of a portion of a hame withniy improvement attached, and Fig. 2 is a crosssection taken at about the line .fr x of Fig. l. Referring to the drawings, similar letters refer to similar parts in both gures.
II designates an ordinary hame, and A the body of my improved attachment, having a re-enforced portion, as A. This body A is formed with extensions E, which have a bearing in and are secured to the outer side of the haine by nails orscrews aa, and an embracingplate, F,which is preferably countersunk and secured to the inner face of the haine. rlhe body has 'formed upon it in any suitable man- ./,io ner the tug or draft-staple D, and the re-enforced portion A is perforated to receive the shank of the eye B, that carries the ring C. The eye B is projected through the body and is headed down upon the inner side before the 45 same is secured to the haine, and the head, when the body is in position, bears upon the forward face of the hame. By this construe: tion the haine is not weakened by the attachment, and the whole may readily be applied 5o with very little labor. The re-enforced portion A supports or resists the strain ofthe eye B.
Having thus described my invention, what I cla-im as new, and desire to secure by Letters 55 Patent, is-
l. In combination with the body A, having re-enforced portion A, and formed to embrace the wood of the hame, as set forth, the eye B, headed upon the inner side of the body, and 6 the ring (l, as specified.
2. The hame attachment described, consisting of the body A, having` re-enforced portion A and embracing plates E and F, the eye B, projected through the re-enforced portion and 6 5 headed upon the inner face of the body, the draft-staple D, and ring G, all arranged, combined, and serving as set forth.
RANSOM K. BUR'I.
