PEANUT-=ROASTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part-=01 Letters Patent No. 309,098, dated December 9, 1884.
Application filed March 26, 1884.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, Louis BOSENKRANZ, of Rhinebeck, in the county of Dutchess and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Peanut-Roaster, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a sectional elevation of my invention, showing the roasting-drum placed in the heater. Fig. 2 is a broken plan view of the heater with the drum and warming-box removed; and Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of my invention, showing the warmingboX in place in the heater.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the heater; B, the roasting-drum; and O represents the warming-box, in which the peanuts are placed, after being roasted in the drum B, to be kept warm.
The heater A may be made of any suitable size, of sheet metal, and with the main bottom a and perforated false bottom Z). The main bottom a has the central large opening, 0, made through it, which is surrounded by the collar (1, which adapts the heater to be placed upon an oil-stove, so that the heat ascending from the wicks of the stove will pass through the opening 0 into the interior of the heater A. Immediately above the opening 0 the false bottom Z) is not perforated, but is left solid, as shown at b, so that this solid portion .of the false bottom will act to deflect the direct heat from the stove and cause it to pass through the perforations of the false bottom, thus causing the 'interior of the heater A to be heated uniformly throughout, which is es sential to the proper and uniform roasting of the peanuts.
To the inner surfaces of the end pieces of the heater A are secured the stirrupsf, which are adapted to support and to form the bearings for the gudgeons e e of the roastingdrum B, as shown in Fig. 1. The gudgeon e is screw-tapped, as shown in dotted lines in (No model.)
Fig. 1, to receive the shaft or crank g, by which the roasting-drum B may be revolved for agitating the peanuts While being roasted. \Vhile the peanuts are being roasted the heater A will be closed by the cover A, which has a series of holes, h, made through it to permit a free circulation of air through the heater, and the bottom a has the openings a made in it to admit fresh air to the interior of the heater, as will be understood from the drawings. Near its upper edge the heater A has the inwardly-projecting beads or ribs i '1', formed in its side walls, and upon the same level with these ribs 1' the end walls of the heater are provided with the lips, lugs, or
to cause the peanuts to sweat.
The drum B is made cylindrical in form, and is provided upon its inner surface with the ribsl Z, which serve to agitate the peanuts as the drum is revolved, and the drum is provided with the opening m and sliding cover m, for charging and emptying the drum.
In use the peanuts to be roasted will be placed in the drum B. The drum will then be placed in the heater A. Then the heater will be closed by the cover A and placed upon an oil or other stove. The crank or shaft 9 will then be attached and the drum B slowly revolved, which will cause the peanuts to be agitated, and, owing to the even distribution of heat, caused by the false bottom b, the nuts will be evenly and uniformly roasted. The peanuts having been roasted, they will be emptied from the drum B into the warming-box C, which will be placed in the heater A and covered with the cover A, so that the peanuts will be subjected to a moderate heat, sufficient to keep them warm for eating.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a peanut-roaster, the heater A, formed with the opening a and collar d, and provided ICO with the false bottom I), having the solid cenf, in combination with the drum B, formed 10 tral portion b, substantially as and for the with the gudgeons e e, the gudgeon 6 being purposes set forth. screw-tapped to receive the crank or shaft 9,
2. The combination, with the heater A, hav- I substantially asdescribed. ing perforated false bottom I), having central T 7 T solid portion, 1), of the roastingdrum B, I LOUIS LOSE) LEA} adapted to be revolved in the heater A, sub- \Vitnesses: stantia-lly as described. THEODORE S. BARNES,
3. The heater A, providedwith the stirrups 1 JAMES H. TI-IORN.
