E. W. PPLAUMER. BGG TESTER. No. 308,791. PatentedDec. 2, 1884.
.dttorney UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD WV. PFLAUMER, OF PARSONS, KANSAS.
EGG-TESTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 308,791, dated December 2, 1884.
(Model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD XV. PELAUMEE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Parsons, in thecounty ofLabet-te and State of Kansas, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Egg-Testers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specieation.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in egg-testing apparatus; and it consists, more especially, in providing the aperture in which the egg is to be placed for the purpose of testing the same with an arm, which engages with a ratchet-wheel which carries a dial-ringer.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view, and Fig. 3 is a plan of the dialfinger-operating mechanism.
A represents a suitable easing having an inclined front portion, A', which is provided with a central opening for the reception of a suitable lens, B. The horizontal portion A is provided with a number of circularperforations, B, of about the same diameter as an egg.
Within the casing A is hinged or otherwise secured an inclined bottom, C, upon which rests a lookingglass, G', or other suitable reiiecting surface.
The finger or projecting portion D, which extends into one of the openings B, is provided at its outer end with a curved port-ion, d, and its inner end is bent so as to lie to one side of the ratchet-wheel E.
A spring, F, which is bent, as shown in Fig. 3, is secured to the under side of the horizonv tal portion A of the case, or in a slot or rccess formed therein for the reception of the same. The end f of the springF bears against the inner end of the finger or arm D, while its opposite end, f, bears upon a notch', d, formed near the central portion of the arm, so as to exert a pressure which forces said arm outwardly.
II, and has attached thereto above the dial a linger, I-I.
The operation of my invention is as follows: The eggs to be tested are placed in the openings B, the apparatus being first placed under a lamp, or in such a position that the rays of thesun will fall thereon. The condition of the eggs may be ascertained by viewing through the aperture fitted with lens B the reiiection cast by the eggs upon the glass. Vhen the perforations are filled with eggs, one of the number, bearing upon the curved end d of the finger D, will press t-he same inward and move the ratchet-wheel E, which will carry with it the dial-finger and move the same forward one space.
l. In an egg-testing apparatus, aperforated horizontal top provided with a register having an operatingarm extendinginto one of the perforations, substantially as shown, f r the purpose set forth.
2. In an egg-testing apparatus, the dial provided with spaees numbered consecutively, so as to correspond with the number of openings for the support of the eggs to be tested, operating means, and a finger or pointer adapted to move over the dial, the actuating means being located within one of the openings in the top of the case, substantially as set forth, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD XV. PFLAUMER.
Vitnesses:
H. T. MOORE,
ItrD. TALBOT.
