SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 308,443, dated November 25, 1884.

The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a face viewof part of a window provided with my improvement, parts being broken out and parts being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the window. Fig. 3 is an inside View of the stop, showing the fastener secured on the same; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the fasteners or prongs.
.The lower section, A, of the stop-bead A is made detachable, and is provided on its inner surface, near the top and bottom, with prongs B, which have their inner edges beveled downward and outward from the inner surface of the stop, which prongs are each provided at their upper end with transverse lugs 0, provided with a slot, D, at right angles to the length of the prong, through which slot a screw, E,is passed into the inner surface of the stop for holding the prong on the stop. The prong can thus be adjusted to be a greater or less distance from either edge of the stop. If the stop is too loose, the prongs are adjusted nearer the outer edge of the stop, so as to hold the inner edge nearer the sash, and if the stop is too tight the prongs are adjusted near the inner edge of the stop. The lower end of the upper section of the stop and the upper end of the lower detachable section of the stop are beveled to fit against each other, as shown.
In the jamb F recesses are formed for receiving plugs H, each having a recess, J, formed in its inner surface, the bottom of the said groove being beveled or inclined from the outer surface at the top to the inner surface at the bottom, which recess is adapted to receive a prong, B. Each plug H is provided with two side logs or prongs, K, for preventing the plug from turning. A groove, L, having a beveled bottom extends upward from the top of each recess G. A knob or button, M, is secured on the outer surface of the part A at or near its lower end.
If the stopbead section A is to be fastened on thejamb, it is placed against the same, and then pressed downward to cause the prongs B to pass into the recesses in the plugs H. As the prongs B and the bottom of the recesses in the plugs are beveled, the section A is drawn toward and against the jamb at the same time that it is pressed downward, and is also held in place. The section A can be fastened or removed very easily and readily. The knob or button M serves as a handle to move the section A up or down.
I am aware that a window-bead has been heretofore provided with a plate fixed thereto, and carrying a downward-proj ecting prong that engaged an angularly-recessed plate on the sash-frame; also, that a sash-frame has been provided with a plate having a key-hole slot, the bead having a headed screw to be held within said key-hole slot by a nut onits outer end, and I claim no such constructions as of my invention;
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a window, the combination, with plugs held on the jamb and provided with recesses in the inner surfaces, which recesses have their bottoms beveled from the outer surface at the top to the inner at the bottom, of prongs held on the inner surface of the detachable stop-bead section A, which prongs have their inner surfaces beveled from the top outward toward the lower ends, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The beveled stop-bead fastening-prong 13, provided at its upper end with a lug, 0, having a slot at right angles to the length of the prong, substantially as herein shown and described.
