T.-J. STREGK.
` NEST. Y No. 307,502.- Patented Nov. 4,` 1884.
THOMAS JAMES STRECK, OF NEV ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.4
NST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 307,502, dated November 4, 1884. Application lledMarch 4, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, Ti-ronlis J. Srnncn, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful N est, of which thefollowing is a specication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to nests for hens and other fowls; and it has for its object to provide a device which shall be cheap and simple in its construction; and, further, to provide a nest whereby all liability of the same to become infested with what are known as chicken-lice is obviated.`
-With these ends in view theinvention consists in the improved construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims. l
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a nest constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the nest, and showing the position of the nest when the supporting-rod is driven in a wall. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of Fig. l.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters refer to corresponding parts in the several gures, A represents a suitable supporting-rod, which is preferably of metal and of sufficient diameter to support the nest when attached thereto, as shown. Thelower end of this rod A is preferably formed with a sharp point, in order that it may be readily driven in the ground or side wall of a building. Upon the upper end of the rod A is secured a U-shaped bracket or loop, C. To the upper ends of this loop C is swiveled the nest D. This nest D consists of the upper ring or band, E, which is of metal, and made somewhat heavier or thicker than the other or lower portion of the nest. To the under side of this ring or band E are secured a series of depending looped wires, which form the body of the nest.
F represents a band or strip of metal, which is made somewhat wider than the wires a, and is located centrally between the same, and is secured at its ends to the ring E. This strip or band F is provided at any desired or suitable point with a perforation, b, which registers with a perforation or opening, c, formed Upon. the bracket or loop C.
Upon the outer side of this bracket or loop C is a pin, d, which is secured thereto by means of a chain, e. This pin is for the purpose of locking the nest in either a vertical or longitudinal position with relation to the rod A.
The operation of my invention is as follows: The rod A may be inserted in the ground and the nest adjusted vertically with relation to said rod; or, if desired, the rod may be in serted in the side of a building and the .nest adjusted longitudinally and secured in position by means of the pin d.
It will be seen from the above description that by the use of my improvement a nest may be readily overturned to remove insects which infest the nests of hens and other fowls. It will also be seen that its construction is simple; that it may be manufactured and supplied to the trade at a slight cost, and that it is durable.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, isk
l. The combination, with a rod provided at its upper end with a bracket, of a nest swiveled in the upper ends thereof, said nest consisting of an upper band or ring having secured to its sides a series of depending wires, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with an upright rod provided at its upper end with a bracket, of a nest swiveled in said bracket, having a central strip provided with a perforation registering with a perforation in the bracket of the rod A, and a pin, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, with a rod provided at its upper end with'a U-shaped bracket pro` vided with a perforation, of a nest consisting of a ring or band having secured to its sides a series of wires forming the body of the nest, and having a strip extending centrally from one side of the band to the other, and provided with a perforation, and a pin adapted to engage said perforations, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. THGS. JAMES STREGK.
