Description

Jan. 1, 1963 P. A. PETERSON 3,071,378
TOY GAMES Filed Dec. 15. 1960 IN V EN TOR.
PETER A. PETERSON BY ffa- ATTORNEY United States Patent Ofiice 3,071,378 Patented Jan. 1, 1963 3,071,378 TOY GAMES Peter A. Peterson, 30-28 87th St., Jackson Heights, N .Y. Filed Dec. 15, 1960, Ser. No. 75,961 2 Claims. (Cl. 273-101) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in toys, or toys suitable for a game to be played, and it has for its object to provide an article, or toy that may be played by children and grownups alike.
Thus one of the characteristics of the invention is that two players, one playing from each side, by skill or dexterity are supposed in playing the game to place the missiles on an upright or post.
With the above and other objects in view, this .invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming part of this application, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective elevational view of my invention.
FIGURE 2 is a transverse sectional view of same, taken on the line 22 in FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 3 is an elevational view showing the shape of a missile.
FIGURE 4 is a transverse view taken on the line 44 in FIGURE 3, While FIGURE 5 shows a modification of FIGURE 4; while FIGURES 6, 7 and 8 are detail views.
Referring more particularly to the drawing numeral 10 indicates a housing of a substantially rectangular shape, as may be seen especially in FIGURE 2, in which 11 are side walls and 12 end walls, while 13 indicates the base.
At each side the side walls are formed with cut- outs 14, 14 to accommodate levers or keys 15 which are arranged on each side and fulcrumed at the crest of the base, as shown in FIGURE 7; said keys may be kept in position by bent hooks 16 or by a thin plastic strip 17 inserted under the walls and overlapping part of said keys; said strips are held snugly but movably in position by the edges of the cut-out portions of the wall.
A substantially flat pole 18 having a longitudinal through slot 19 therein, is mounted at the center of the housing 10 and adapted to receive missiles 2 1, when these during the game are catapulted upwards in the housing by operating said keys 15.
When it is desired to remove the said missiles from the pole 18, a member 22, consisting of a bar with operating knobs 24, 24, is adapted to slide in said slot 19 and is passed up and down in the latter for said removing purpose.
The missile 21 consists of two parts 25, 25 secured together by a central bar 26, and is thus suitable for being caught on the pole 18 and ride on the latter.
It is obvious that changes may be made in the construction as shown, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not, therefore, restrict myself to the construction shown and described herein.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
1. A toy game comprising a housing and a base with bevelled side portions, a substantially fiat pole arranged at the center of said housing, said pole being formed with a vertical slot therein, keys arranged on both sides of said housing and fulcrumed at the crest of the bevelled side portions of said base, missiles disposed within said housing and being adapted to be catapulted by said keys for engagement with the pole, and a member slidable in the slot of said pole for the disengagement Off said missiles, each missile consisting of two parts connected by a bar and adapted to straddle said pole.
2..In a device, as claimed in claim 1, and wherein said member consists of a bar having an operating knob at each end thereof. 9
