Be it known that I, WILLIAM Scrrwmw 'DLER, of Appleton, in the county ofOutagamic and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes- Iteels, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention consists in certain improvements in that class of clothes-reels in which a grooved track-plate is provided with rollers for the reel-head to revolve on, as will be hereinafter described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, in 'which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 isa sectional elevation of a clothesreel in part and embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan of a circular track-plate with its attachments, which sits on top of the upright or post that carries the reel; and Fig. 4, an under view of the rotating arm head or plate constructed to form a circular carriage, which rests upon rollers in the track-plate.

A is the upright or post, on which the reel is mounted. B is the track-plate, of circular form, and constructed to fit as a cap the top of the post A, and secured by screws or one or more bolts, b, thereon. In the upper surface of this plate is a circular grooved track, 0, the outer wall of i which flares outwardly that is, inclines upwardly in an outward direction. Fitted loosely within this grooved track are a series of anti-friction rollers, d, of such diameter as to project above the track,

and arranged to run on the smooth bottom thereof and on or against the smooth under surface of the head or center plate, 0, which. carries the wooden arms D of the reel, and which is constructed with a circular rim, 0, on its under side, that converts it into a carriage for travel on or with the rollers. This circular rim or flange receives the upper end of the tracleplate B freely but snugly within it, to protect the rollers and track from rain and dirt. next to the daring wall of the track 0, but with a swell or of a convex shape on their inner sides, whereby they are caused to run andturn in and around the track with perfect ease and freedom. The track-plate B is fathermore made with a central upwardly-tapering hollow upright, f, arranged to project up through the eye of the head or center plate, G, which rotates around said upright, and is centrally guided thereby, and adjusts itseltin case of wear to a steady bearing thereon or around by reason of the tapering construction of the upright. The head or center piece, 0, is constructed with four (more or less) radial sockets, 9, within which the inner ends of the arms 1) are fitted, and which slightly curve or incline upward in an. outer direction to give increased strength. Said head or centerpiece, 0, is furthermore constructed with a rain-shedding annular plate, 71, on the top of its edge, which plate is made with an upwardly-bent lip that serves to receive over it a cap, E, arranged to sit or bear down on the top of the stationary ppright f, so as to pre sent no friction to the rotating head of the reel. Projecting up through the upright f is a bolt, i, onto which and on or against the top of the cap E a nut, is, screws to hold the rotating head and several working parts to their places. The cap E, constructed and arranged as described, excludes rain and dust from entering down through the eye of the head of the reel. 4

The whole device forms a round or roller carriage clothes-reel, which will work with the greatest freedom and steadiness.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of the centrally-apertured head 0, having-an annular plate, 72, and anupturned inner lip, with the roller trackplate B, provided with the stem f, screwthreaded at i, rollers d, a cap, E, constructed to receive the said lip, and a securing-nut, K, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination of atrack-plat-e flanged on its under side for the reception of the post, and provided 011 its upper side with the roller groove 0, and a tapering post, screw threaded at its upper end, WithaheadJlpml flange-rollers interposed between the trackvided with a. central aperture contracted near 1 plate and. the head and a securing-nut, subits top and bottom, radial sockets g, a flange, stantially as set forth.
