FLOOR CLAMP.

EIFECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 306,424, dated October 14, 1884:.

Be it known that I, HENRY AUe-UsrUs PIUKARD, of Danvers, in the county of Essex, of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have '5 invented a new and useful Improvement in Floor-Olamps; and I do hereby declare the same to be described in the following 'spcciiication and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which-v Figure 1 is a top view, Fig. 2 a side elevation, and Fig. 3

a longitudinal and median section, of a floor-clamp containing my invention, the nature of which is defined in the claim hereinafter presented.

In some respects the said floor-clamp is like that described in the United States Patent No. 299,220, though differing therefrom materially, as it has two sets of toggles separate from an operative lever, which, fulcrumcd to standards, has in its shorter arm a curved slot to receive the median joint-pin or roller ot' the toggles.

Furthermore, the. lever has its curved catch rack attached to and extended from the floor board presser, and such leverhas its longer arm projecting toward and over such presser, whereby a person while operating the lever is able to stand on the floor-board in order to prevent it from being forced upward off the under floor.

presser is by the workman to be placed against the tongued edge of the flooring-board to be forced up, such workman standing or having one foot on the said board. Next, the workman is toraise the longer arm of the lever, so as to cause the toggles to move upward and draw the toothed abutment toward the presser. Next, the spurs or teeth of the abutment are to be forced into the floor, after which the workman, standing or having one foot on the floor-board to be forced up, is to raise the rack out of engagement with the le ver and draw the longer arm of the lever to ward him. In so doing the presser will be forced forward by the toggles, and the board will be set up, and may be held so set by the curved rack catching upon the lever.

I do not herein claim a floor-clamp having its toothed block connected to a lever by links, and such levcr jointed at its lower end to a presser or block provided with rods extending from it through the toothed block, all being as represented in the hercinbefore-mentioned patent.

I claim The combination of the presser, its rods, the toothed block to slide on such rods, the toggles jointed together and to thepresser and toothed block, the standards erected on the rods, the

slotted lever fulcrumed to the standards and applied, as described, to the toggles, and the curved rack connected to the presser and extended through the longer arm of the lever, all being arranged substantially and to operate as and for the purpose set forth.
