DISINFECTING APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 306,421, dated October 11i, 1884.
(No model.)A
To all 't1/72,0712, t may concern:
Be it known that we, SAMUEL XV. PARKER and HENRY BLAOKMAN, citizens of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Disinfecting Apparatns, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a certain improve- Figure l represents a section of our disin` feeting apparatus as applied to a water-closet. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section of the measuring devices when in position to ll the measuring-chamber, on a larger scale than the previous iigure. Fig. 3 is a similar section when the measuringchamber discharges. Fig. et is a transverse section in the plane x a, Fig. 2.
Si milar letters indicate corresponding parts. ln these drawings, the letter A. designates a vessel which contains the disinfect-ingliqnid. This vessel is, by preference, made of glass, so that the level of the liquid contained t-herein can be observed at all. times; but it may also be made of sheet metal and provided with a strip ol'glass inserted into its side for thepurpose oi' observing the level of the liquid. Said vessel is provided with a cover, B, which is4 fastened in position by set-screws c, or by any other suitable means, and which is provided with an opening, b, for introducing the disinfectingliquid into the vessel A.
On the inner surface of the bottom ll is formed a circular flange, C, which extends down into a cup, l), mounted on a tubular rod, E. A spring, F, has a tendency to force the cup l) downward. These parts are substantially the same as those described in our above-named patent, and they require no `i'urther description in this present application. The rod E extends up through t-he cover l,
and it is connected to a lever, G, which has its fulcrum on a pivot, c, mounted in a standard, d, which rises from the cover.
From the outer end of the lever G extends arod, e, to a lever, H, which, in the example shown in the drawings, connects to the handle I of the water-closet. The lever G may, however, be actuated by any suitable means. For instance, a cord maybe substituted for the rod c, and such cord may be pulled by hand; or the rod e may be connected to a door, so that the lever G is actuated when ever the door is opened.
In the bottom'of the vessel A is secured the measuring-chamber K, which is provided with )an basin. or sink which is to be disinfected.
rlhe tubular rod E extends through the measuring-chamber li and into the dischargeehamber L, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and it is provided with apartition, h, which divides its interior into a liquid-channel, t', and an airehannel, j. The liquidehannel 't' is provided with a series of openings, t" 1'? i 1'." i5, and the air-channel. is provided with a series of openings, j jiji". Then the outer end ofthe lever G is depressed, the tubular rod E is raised to the. position shown in Fig. 2, the openings fz of the liquid-channel are carried above the bottom of the vessel A., and the openings t" i2 of the liquid-channel '/I, as well as the openings j j2 ol' the air-channelj, are broughtinto the interior of theincasuring-ehaniberl. The disiniectingliquid from the vessel A descends through the openings i", liquid-channel z', and openings t" i2 i" into the measuring-chamber, while at the saine time the air is free to escape from said measuring-chamber through the openings j j? and the air-channel By this arrangement we are enabled to iill the measuri11g-chamber clear up in a very short time, and when the level' G- is permitted to follow the action of the spring F, the tubularrod E is carried downto the position shown in Fig. 3, and the liquid contained in the measuring-cha1nber is free to flow through the openings i* t" fit t" into the discharge-chamber L, and thence tlnfough the pipe Minto the IOO bowl, pan, basin, or sink which is to be disnel j, and having the openings leading` into infected. these two channels, :uid the lever G for aetn- NVhat We claim as new, and desire to Seoul-e ating the tubuianrod E. by Letters Patent, is In testimony whereof we have hereunto set i 5 5 The combination, substantially as hereinbeour hands and seais in the presence of two subfore described, of the vessel A, the measuringx seribing Witnesses.
