R. 0. ANDERSON.
DRAFT APPARATUS FOR OIL CANS. V No. 305,127. Patented Sept. 16, 1884.
Id 4 w? w jnmwr UNITED STATES PATENT Onrrcn.
ROBERT C. ANDERSON, OF NEV YORK, N. Y
DRAFT APPARATUS FOR OlL-CANS.
- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 305,127, dated September 16, 1884.
Application filed March 21, 1884. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ROBERT C. ANDERSON, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Draft Apparatus for Oil-Cans, of which the following is a specification.
I will describe an apparatus embodying my improvement, and then point out the features in a claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical section of the. upper part of an oil-can provided with an apparatus embodying my improvement, the valve being closed; and Fig. 2 is a similar view with the valve opened.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in both figures.
A designates the upper portion of a sheetmetal oil-can,provided at the top with an opening, a. e
B designates a disk or plate arranged over the opening a of the cam A, and secured in place by solder or otherwise. The disk or plate B has a central opening, I), from which extends a cylinder, 0. This cylinder may be secured to the disk or plate by solder or otherwise. It has a recessed or countersunk top.
From the side of the cylinder 0 extends a nozzle, D.
All the parts described may be made of sheet metal.
E designates a valve arranged upon a spindle, c, and arranged below the disk or plate B. It is adapted to close the opening b. Its spindle c is guided in the top of the cylinder 0, and also in a spider or bearing, F, fastened to the under side of the disk or plate B by solder or otherwise. The spindlecis provided with a collar or a shoulder, 0, between which and the disk or plate B is coiled around it a spiral spring, G. The spring forces the valve up against its seat at the edges of the opening b of the disk or plate B. By pressing down on the upper end of the spindle c, the valve may be forced away from its seat, so as to allow oil to flow into the cylinder 0. The upper end of the valve-spindle does not project above the highest portion of the top of the cylinder 0; hence it is not liable to be operated accidentally.
By lnyimprovement I provide avery simple and cheap draft apparatus for oil-cans, which is not liable to get out of order and can be very easily operated.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a can, of a chamber arranged above the top of the same, a spout on said chamber, a spider arranged below the top of the can, a spindle having bearings in the upper portion of said chamber and in said spider, a head or shoulder on said spindle, a valve arranged on the spindle between the bottom of the chamber and the spider, a valveseat therefor, and a spiral spring for closing the valve arranged upon said spider within the chamber, and abutting at one end upon the head or shoulder on the spindle and at the other upon the top of the can, substantially as specified.

Patent No. a 305,127.
Correction in letters It is hereby certified that in Letters Patent No. 305,127, upon the application of Robert G. Anderson,
granted September 16, L884, j of New York, New York, for an improvement in Draft Apparatus for Oil-Cans, an error appears in the printed specification requiring correction, as follows: In line 67 the word spider should read spindle,- and I that the Letters Patent should be read with this correction therein to make it conform to the record of the casein the Patent Office. Signed, countersigned, and sealed this 30th day of September, A. D. 1884.
