Description
N,FETE S. FHOTO-LFTNOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NATHAN S. WARNER AND HENRY S. BENEDICT, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
LADLE WITH FORK ATTACHED.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 30,437, dated October 16, 1860.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we, NATHAN S. WARNER and HENRY S. BENEDIGT, both of Bridgeport, Fairfield county, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Kitchen Utensil; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure l-A is the handle or stem of the utensil terminating in the fork B.
C, C, on each side of the fork B is a frame work or open work, the two sides of said frame work being united at D. Said frame work at the points D D, is secured or fastened upon or around the stem A by the bands g, g', (or in other convenient manner) so as to permit of its being slid along said stem (by pulling on the finger piece I) so that the said frame work C C may be drawn back and entirely away from said fork B.
Ve are aware that a skimmer and fork have before been attached to the same handle; but in such manner that the two things were entirely independent of each other and neither could be used in connection with, 0r made serviceable to the other.
The peculiarity of our invention consists in so constructing the movable frame work and combining the same with the fork, that when the utensil is used as a skimmer, the fork constitutes a part of the skimmer, its prongs then being a portion of the frame work which compose the complete skimmer. This enables the utensil to be made very much lighter, cheaper, and more convenient than otherwise and also permits its use for an egg-beater and for other purposes.
That we claim as our invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The movable frame work C C attached to the fork, which in combination with said fork composes a skimmer as set forth.
NATHAN S. VARNER. HENRY S. BENEDICT.
Vitnesses HENRY T. BLAKE, L. F. ROOT.
