FRANK RICKER, OF NEWv YORK, N. Y.
FILTER FOR COFFEE AND TEA POTS, 80C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 304,238, dated August 26, 1884.
Application filed February 23, 1884.
To all 107mm/ t may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK RICKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Filters for Coffee and Tea Pots and other Vessels, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification.
My invention relates particularly to lters or percolators for tea and coffee pots, but it may be applied to the extraction of the active principle from other aromatic or medicinal substances; and it consists, essentially, in a foraminated stand or holder for supporting a bag or sack of textile fabric, and it may be made of sheet metal or wire-cloth and provided with legs, as shown in the drawings, in Which- Figure l is a view showing a coffee-pot in section and a stand or holder inserted therein in elevation; and Fig. 2 is a section of the stand or holder, showing the sack of textile fabric in elevation. Figs. 3 and 4 are sections ofthe top of the holder, showing a flange, d', turned inward and outward, respectively, as a shelf or support for the ring of the bag or sack.
A is a coffee pot or'vessel of any desired form, material, and construction, and B is a cylindrical holder, which is preferably made from sheet metal, which may be plated with nickel or any other desired metal. The material is preferably out away at the lower end of the stand to form legs b b, and the walls are perforated to permit of lateral as well as downward percolation. The perforations may extend from the top to the bottom if desired, but I have obtained more satisfactory results from stands having perforations, beginning some distance from the top, as shown in the drawings. It is obvious that a stand made of wire-cloth or other rigid foraminous material would answer essentially the same purpose as perforated sheet metal.' The stand may be swaged to provide an annular shoulder or ledge, d, for supporting the bag by its ring; or it may have a flange turned either inward (No model.)
or outward to serve as such support, or it may be made straight; or the bag may be attached directly to the stand by hooks or otherwise without departing from my invention.
C is the bag or sack of textile fabric, and is preferably provided with a ring to hold its mouth open and furnish a means of connecting it with the stand by 'resting on the ledge d or'on the top thereof, as maybe deemed most convenient or advisable for any reason. The bag may be provided with eyes or button-holes, and may be detachably connected with the stand by hooking over suitable hooks or studs projecting either inward or outward from the stand, or it may be permanently connected with the stand. The stand or holder is intended to be inserted into a tea or coffee pot or other vessel, but will obviously serve its purpose as a filter or percolator without reference to its association with any particular vessel.
I am aware of Patent No. 201,947, wherein a'skeleton spring-wire support is described, and therefore do not broadly claim an independent support for a filtering-sack; but
Vhat I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An improved article of manufacture consisting of a cylindrical foraminated stand or support for a bag or sack of textile fabric, as hereinbefore described.
2. The combination of a cylindrical foraminated stand or support and a bag or sack of textile fabric, as specified.
3. The combination of a foraminated stand or support provided with a swage or ledge, as described, and a bag of textile fabric provided with a ring at its mouth, substantially as specied.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two winesses.
FRANK RICKER.
