PEG BOARD ROSARY Filed Aug. 4, 1958 INVENTOR: GEORGE H. Maas,
United States Patent O."
3,042,302 PEG BOARD ROSARY George A. Mues, 9429 Sequoia Drive, Ailton 23, Mo. Filed Aug. 4, 1958, Ser. No. 752,962 1 Claim. (Cl. 23S-90) The present invention relates generally to religious devices, and more particularly to rosaries. Specifically, the present invention concerns a novel peg board rosary for home and other use.
In brief, the present novel peg board rosary includes a base on which is mounted 1an upright panel. The panel has holes therein in numbers and spacing defining a rosary. The base includes wells, or the like, which hold beads in the form of pegs suitable for insertion into and removal from the holes in the panel.
An object of the present invention is =to provide a novel peg board rosary adapted for home `and other use.
Another object is to provide a novel peg board rosary which is designed to encourage family or individual use thereof.
Another object is to provide la rosary which can be intermittently employed to obtain a continuous prayer sequence.
Another object is to provide a rosary which can be cumulatively employed by Ia family.
Another object is to provide a peg board rosary which is pleasing in design and which can be readily used by even the s-mallest member of the family with minimum instructions.
The foregoing and other objects and advantages are apparent from the following description taken with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a front elevational view of a peg board rosary incorporating the principles of the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is a side elevational view thereof;
FIGURE 3 is a horizontal cross-sectional view taken on substantially the line 3:---3` of FIGURE 2;
FIGURE 4 is a fragmentary, vertical, cross-sectional view taken on substantially the line 4-4 of FIGURE )2, illustrating details of a peg bead container;
FIGURE 5 is Ia view of a small headed peg bead suitable for use as part of the present peg board rosary; and
FIGURE 6 is a view of a large headed peg bead.
Referring to the drawing more particularly by reference numerals, 10 indicates generally a peg board rosary constructed in accordance with the teachings of the present invention. The peg board rosary 10 includes -a base 12 which may be of rectangular form, as illustrated, and of wood, metal, or other desirable material. In the base 12 are three circular Wells 14 each of which is closed by a removable cover 16 pivotally mounted on a screw 18 (FIG. 4). Within the center well 14 are large headed bead pegs 20 and Within the other two wells 14 are small headed bead pegs 22, the former being for the purpose of indicating Our Father prayers and the l-atter for the purpose of indicating Hail M-ary prayers in accord-ance with rosary beads.
A panel 26 is mounted on the base 12, being maintained in position -by suitable glue or other suitable fastening 3,042,302 Fatented July 3, 1962 ice means. The panel 26 includes a plurality of holes 28 disposed in a pattern simulating rosary beads, `as is clear from FIGURE 1 A cross 30 and a medallion 32 are provided.
In use, as a prayer is said, a bead 20 or 22 is inserted into the appropriate hole 28. When the user is interrupted from prayer for any reason, manifestly, the peg board rosary 10 remains in the condition in which it was left, hence, the user may resurne prayer and continue from the point reached at the time of the interruption. Similarly, the instant peg board rosary 10 m-ay be used cumulatively by the several members of the family.
The peg beads 20 and 22 are removed from the several wel-ls 14 as needed, and are returned to the Wells 14 when a rosary is complete. The particular form of the heads of the peg beads 20 and 22 is optional, but preferably Our Father peg beads 20 have larger heads than the Hail Maly peg beads 22. It is also preferred to have the holes 28 of the same size for manufacturing purposes. The holes 28 .extend through the panel 26, but they may be in the form of wells, or the like. 'Ilhe pattern which the holes take in the panel 26 m-ay be varied `as desired.
It is apparent that there has been provided a peg board rosary which fulfills the objects and `advantages sought therefor.
It is to be understood that the foregoing `descrip-tion and the accompanying `drawing have been given by way of illustration and example. It is also to be understood that changes in form of the elements, rearrangement of parts, and substitution of equivalent elements, which will be obvious to those skilled in the art, are contemplated as within the lscope of the present invention which is limited only by the claim which follows.
What is claimed is:
A peg board rosary comprising, in combination, a base for supporting said peg board rosary in upright position, spaced Wells in `said base for receiving peg beads, a top for each well pivotally mounted on said base adapted to prevent spilling of peg beads when in closed relation, a panel supported by said base extending upwardly therefrom at an acute iangle thereto, thereby improving stability of the peg board rosary, said panel being forwardly of said peg bead wells thereby hiding them from view, openings in said panel for receiving peg beads, said openings being distributed over said panel in a pattern simulating rosary beads spread thereover, a cross and a medallion on said panel `disposed in rosary relation to said openings, and ya plurality of rosary peg beads in said Wells adapted to be disposed in and removed from said panel openings, each of said peg beads including a spindle disposable in `an opening in the panel and a head of larger diameter than the diameter of the openings, a selected number of peg beads having heads of larger size than the remainder.
