- 11 Claims. (Cl. 4G3il8) This invention relates to price tag displays, more particularly to a price tag display unit for use on grocery bins and the like, and to a display bin having a price tag unit attached thereto.

Modern day supermarkets which include in their inventory literally thousands of different types of items, quite often use display bins such as those shown in my patent Serial No. 407,688 issued January 13, 1959, which by this reference is made a part hereof. It is, of course, necessary to indicate in some way the price of goods contained in such display bins. Such price indicators should, of course, be readily changeable and should be easily attachable to the display bins. Further, it is desirable that they be attachable to the display bins in such a manner that youngsters will be unable to remove or displace them.

It is, therefore, an object of this inveniton to provide a tag display unit which answers the above requirements.

It is a further object of this invention to provide a tag display unit for use on such grocery bins which includes a backing member for attaching theunit to the grocery bin, a tag holder supporting portion on the backing memher and a transparent tag holder positioned on the supporting member and adapted to carry price tags, and the like, which are maintained in a substantially vertical position so as to be easily read by customers.

It is yet another object of this invention to provide a display bin for small packaged articles such as groceries, and the like, which includes an upwardly extending front portion and a tag display unit attached thereto such as that described in the preceding paragraph.

Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from the following description of several embodiments taken together with the accompanying drawings.

Referring now to FIGURE 1, a display bin 10 similar to that shown in my patent referred to above is partially shown therein. This display bin is constructed of a wire material and has an upwardly extending front wall 1-1, an upwardly extending rear wall 12 and a divider 13. The front wall 11 is shorter than the rear wall 12 and the divider 13, and is constructed so as to angular-1y extend upwardly and outwardly from the display bin. A tag display unit 14 is shown in place on the angularly extending front wall 11.

Referring now to FIGURE 2, there is seen therein an exploded View of the tag holder 14. This structure is also constructed for the most part of wire material or the like, and includes an elongated backing member 15 which has a hooked upper portion 15a and a protruding lower portion 15b. v

Attached to the backing member 15 is an L-shaped tag holder supporting member 16. The attachment between the supporting member 16 and the backing memher 15 is by means of welds at

points

17 and 18 at the rear portion of the shorter leg 16a of the tag holder 16. The upper portion 16b is not necessarily connected to the backing member 15 but may rest against it as shown in FIGURE 4 or may be spaced from it as shown in the embodiment of FIGURE 8 which will be described later.

The tag holder supporting member 16 has defined on its front face an angularly disposed tag holder supporting portion 19. Attached thereto by means of

20 and 21 is a tag retainer bar 22. The extreme ends of the tag retainer bar 22 are curved forwardly to provide hooks 22a which are adapted to grip the tag holder.

The tag holder shown in this embodiment comprises a thin substantially flat sheet 23 which as shown is made of a transparent plastic material but which could be constructed of other materials with equal facility. The upper and lower edges 23;: of the sheet 23 are turned inwardly to form channels 24. These channels 24 are adapted. to receive a price tag orthe like 25 and to hold it in place. A pair of sockets 26 are provided on the back edges of the sheet 23. These sockets 26 are adapted to receive the hooks 22a on the tag retainer bar 22 to thus position the tag holder properly in place. A cover 27 which is made of a transparent plastic material also has its edges 27a turned back to create the channels 28; This cover member 27 is adapted to enclose the sheet 23 with the price tag 25 in place to protect the latter.

Referring now to FIGURE 5, another embodiment of the tag display unit 14 of this invention is shown therein. As can be seen, this embodiment of the unit includes an L-shaped tag holder supporting member 29 which has an upper hooked portion 30 and a downwardly extending portion 31 at the end of the shorter leg 29a of the tag holder supporting member. The downwardly extending portion 31 and the hooked portion 30 combine to provide substantially the function of the backing member 15 already discussed. The tag holder supporting member 29 has an angularly disposed tag holder supporting portion 32 very similar to the tag holder supporting portion 19 already discussed. A tag bar 22 is also attached to this portion 32 and also has hooked ends 22a. A short bar 33 is welded across the tag holder supporting member near the downwardly extending portion 31. This bar 33 is designed to abut the display bin as will be described later.

Referring now to FIGURE 8, a second embodiment of a tag holder 34 is shown as part of a tag display unit similar to that shown inFIGURE 2. The tag holder 34 is a flat piece of transparent plastic material which has an open tubular center 35. This tubular center 35 is designed to receive the hooks 22a of the tag'retainer 'c'ooperate to provide a slot 'for receiving a tag similar to, but smaller than tag 25 shown in FIGURE 2.

Referring now to FIGURE 9, another embodiment V of a tag display unit 114 is shown in place on a display thus near the floor of a store. In such atlocation it is desirable to have the tag holder tilted toa greater degree thus allowing the customer an easy view of thesaine.

The unit 114 is also constructed for the most part of Wire material or the like, and includes an elonga-tedbacking member 115 which has a hooked upper portion 1151!. The lower portion of the member 115 has an S-shaped bend at-115b which provides an outwardly displaced parallel portion 115-c.

Attached to the backing member 115 is a V-shaped tag holder supporting member 116. The attachment between the supporting member 116 and the backing memher 115- is by means of welds at points 117 at the top of the member 115' and 118 near the lower portion of the member 115. r

The tag holder supporting member 116 has defined on its front face an angularly disposed tag holder support- 7 ing portion 119; Attached thereto by means of welds The tag holder shown on this embodiment is the same as the tag holder shown in and described in FIGURE 2.

A tag display unit for use on wire grocery bins and the like, comprising: an elongated backing member including a hook-shaped upper portion for attaching said unit to said grocery bin, the lower portion of said baclo' ing member adapted to be dipped behind a portion of said grocery bin to effect a substantially rigid connection; a tag retainer supporting portion on said backing member having an angularly disposed first portion adapted to support said tag retainer andi -a second portion adapted to abut said grocery bin when said unit is attached thereto; a horizontally disposed tag retainer on said first portion having'hcok-shaped ends; and a substantially thin and flat transparent tag holder positioned on said tag retainer and having end sockets adapted to receive the hook-shaped end portions thereof, said tag holder also having a plurality of channels adapted to carry price tags and thelike, the lower portion of said backing member s and the lower portionof said tag holder being adapted to stantially rigid but removable attachment of the tag holder display unit to the display bin 10, In such a position, the rear portions 16a, 116a and 16b of the tag holder supporting members 16' and 116' of the embodiments shown in FIGURES! and 9 will abut the vertical wires 41of' the front wall 11 to provide a stop and thus giving the rigid attachment discussed above. The same func tion is performed by the bar 33 in the embodiment shown in FIGURES 5 and 6. Of course, it should also be noted that it" is not necessary to dipthe lower portion 15b, the

downwardly extending portion 31, or theportion 115a behind the wire 40 if rigid attachment is not needed.

This is so because the tagldisplay unit will hang neatly in place with the

A tag display unit for use on wire grocery bins and r the like, comprising: an elongated backing member in-- cluding a hook-shaped upper portion for attaching said unit to said grocery bin, the lower portion of said backing member adapted to be'dipped behind a portion of said grocery bin to efifect a substantially rigid connection; a

tag retainer supporting portion on said backing memberhaving an angularly disposed first poruon adapted to sup port said tag retainer and a second portion adapted to abut said grocery bin whensaid unit is attached thereto; a horizontally disposed tag retainer bar on said first portion having hook-shaped ends; a substantially thin and fiat tag holder positioned on said tag retainer and having end socketsadapted to receive the hook-shaped end portions thereof, said tag holder also having a plurality of channels adapted to carry price tags and the like; and a removable transparent cover having a pair of channels adapted to receive said holderto protect said tags, the lower portion of said backing member and the lower port-ion of said tag holder beingadapted to support said unit on a substantially horizontal surface in a displaying position. i

A tag display unit for use on wire grocery bins and the like, comprising: an elongated backing member-including a hook-shaped upper portion for attaching said unit to said grocery bin, the lower portion of said backing member adapted to be dipped behind a portion'of said grocery bin to effect a substantially rigid connection; a tag holder supporting portion on'said backing member having an angularly disposed first portion adapted to support said tag holder and a second portion adapted to abut said grocery bin whensaidunit is attached thereto; a substantially thin and flat tag holder positioned on said supporting portion having a plurality of channels adapted to carry price tags and the like; and a removable transparent cover having a pair of channels adapted to receive said holder to protect said tags. 7

A tag display unit for use on wirev grocery bins and the like, comprising: an elongated backing member including a hook-shaped upper portion for attaching said unit to said grocery bin, the lower portion of said backing member adapted to be dipped behind a portion of said grocery bin to effect a substantially rigid connection; a tag retainer supporting portion on said backing member having an angularly disposed first portion adapted to support said tag retainer and a second portion adapted to abut said grocery bin when said unit is attached thereto; a horizontally disposed tag retainer on said first portion having hook-shaped ends; and a substantially thin and flat transparent tag holder positioned on said tag retainer and having end sockets adapted to receive the hook-shaped end portions thereof, said tag holder also having a plurality of channels adapted to carry price tags and the like.

A tag display unit for use on wire grocery bins and the like, comprising: an elongated backing member including a hook-shaped upper portion for attaching said unit to said grocery bin, the lower portion of said backing member adapted to be clipped behind a portion of Said grocery bin to effect a substantially rigid connection; a tag retainer supporting portion on said backing member having an angularly disposed first portion adapted to support said tag retainer and a second portion adapted to abut said grocery bin when said unit is attached thereto; a horizontally disposed tag retainer bar on said first portion having hook-shaped ends; a substantially thin and flat tag holder positioned on said tag retainer and having end sockets adapted to receive the hook-shaped end portions thereof, said tag holder also having a plurality of channels adapted to carry price tags and the like; and a removable transparent cover having a pair of channels adapted to receive said holder to protect said tags.

A tag display unit for use on wire grocery bins and the like, comprising: a tag Supporting frame having a hook-shaped member adjacent one end thereof; means adjacent the other end of said frame, shaped to extend bebind a supporting surface on said bin; and a member located adjacent the end of said means and positioned to engage a front area of said supporting Surface whereby a portion of the supporting surface is gripped between said means and said member to provide substantially tight connection thereto.

8. A tag display unit for use on wire grocery bins and the like, comprising: a frame having a hook-shaped memher adjacent one end thereof; means adjacent the other end of said frame shaped to extend behind a supporting surface on said bin; a tag holder supporting portion on said frame; and a member located adjacent the end of said means and positioned to engage a front area of said supporting surface whereby a portion of the supporting surface is gripped between said means and said member to provide substantially tight connection thereto.

9. A tag display unit for use on wire grocery bins and the like, comprising: a frame having a hook-shaped member adjacent one end thereof; means adjacent the other end of said frame, shaped to extend behind a supporting surface on said bin; and a tag holder supporting portion on said frame having a first portion adapted to support a tag and a second portion positioned adjacent the end of said means to engage a front area of said supporting surface whereby a portion of the supporting surface is gripped between said means and said supporting portion to provide a substantially tight connection thereto.

10. A tag display unit for use on wire grocery bins and the like, comprising: a frame having a hook-shaped member adjacent one end thereof; means adjacent the other end of said frame, shaped to extend behind a supporting surface on said bin; a tag holder supporting portion on said frame having a first portion adapted to support a tag and a second portion positioned adjacent the end of said means to engage a front area of said supporting surface whereby a portion of the supporting surface is gripped between said means and said supporting portion to provide a substantially tight connection thereto; and a tag holder positioned on said supporting portion.

11. The device of claim 10 wherein said tag holder supporting portion has a plurality of channels adapted to carry price tags and the like.
