It is one object of this invention to provide combinations of ladies bags and purses wherein the bags and the purses normally form integral units, which units can readily be separated whenever desired, thus making it possible to use the bags and the purses separately.

It is another object of this invention to provide ladies bag-and-purse units having releasable fastener means for attaching the purses to the bags which fastener means are inconspicuous and not likely to open unintentionally which, if it occurred, is likely to result in loss of the purses.

A further object of the invention is to provide ladies bags having rugged, readily releasable, wear resistant tie means for securing purses thereto.

The foregoing and other objects of the invention and advantages thereof will more clearly appear from the ensuing particular description of the invention, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

FIG. 1 is a front view of a bag-and-purse unit embodying this invention in closed position;

FIG. 2 is a top-plan view of the structure of FIG. 1 with both the bag and the purse in the open positions thereof;

FIG. 3 is a section along 3--3 of FIG. 2; and

FIGS. 4 and 5 are elevations of fasteners which may take the place of the fastener means illustrated in FIGS. 2 and 3 and described in connection therewith.

Referring now to the drawings, letter B has been ap plied to generally indicate a ladies bag and reference letter P has been applied to generally indicate a purse of the clutchfold frame type. The bag has a center line 0 and comprises two parts I) and b" adapted to be folded about center line c into, and out of, registry. FIG. 1 shows parts b and b" folded together and in registry. FIG. 2 shows parts b and b" folded apart, out of registry. Part b is provided with a closing strap to which an appropriate fastener as, for instance, a snap fastener may be secured. The sides of the bag B are hemmed in as indicated at h and the bag B may define several compartments, or pockets, having open entrance portions e. In addition to the compartments or pockets having open entrance portions e purse P may be provided with a compartment or pocket closable by a zipper a having a pull tab a. The bag B may further be provided with an eyelet g through which a key chain k may be threaded. The inside of bag B is lined with a lining m clearly shown in FIG. 3.

As mentioned above, purse P is a clutchfold frame type purse and reference letter 12 has been applied to indi cate the frame thereof whose parts are hingedly connected at z, i.e. in that position of frame n the latter and the edge portion 0 are situated substantially within a common plane and form juxtaposed edges of a rectangle which may be visualized as being arranged within said plane. The purse P has a lower edge portion 0 which is juxtaposed to the frame 11 when the latter is in closed position thereof. The edge portion 0 of purse P is superimposed upon the center line 0 of bag B. The lining m and the edge portion 0 are provided with spaced perforations m and 0, respectively, which are arranged in registry. The unit made up of parts B and P is held together by a safety pin type fastener generally indicated by the reference letter p. The portion p of fastener p is arranged under the lining m, and the fastener p has portions projecting through the registering perforations m and a into the inside of the purse P. The fastener p further comprises latch means p" arranged inside of purse P, and thus protected from being opened accidentally, resulting in a danger of loss of the purse.

Fasteners of the type shown in FIGS. 4 and 5 may be substituted for the safety pin type fastener shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, if desired. The fastener shown in FIG. 4 comprises a substantially U-shaped bar s the center portion s of which is to be placed under lining m with the lateral portions projecting at right angles through perforations m and 0' into purse P. The upper ends of the lateral portions of bar s support a pair of arms or swing locks s" having two end positions. In one of these positions-shown in FIG. 4arms or swing locks s" extend parallel to center portion s, and then parts s" preclude removal of purse P from bag B. If arms s" are turned upwardly, so as to enclose right angles with the center portion s, the purse P may readily be removed from bag structure B. In both their limit positions arms s" are held by a considerable amount of friction, thus preventing accidental shifting of arms s" from one limit position to the other. The amount of friction required to achieve this end may be obtained by any desired conventional means. As shown in FIG. 4 each of the arms s is formed by a short length of wire folded in the center thereof and adapted to engage with its ends pivot pins (not shown) extending at points s at right angles to the plane of the paper on which FIG 4 is drawn. The aforementioned pivot pins may be square in cross-section, if desired, to emphasize the two limit positions of swing locks s".

The fastener shown in FIG. 5 comprises a substantially U-shaped part v, the center portion v of which is placed under the lining in with lateral portions 1 projecting through perforations m and 0 into purse P. The upper ends of the portions 11 of part v inside of purse P are connected to each other by a tie spring v normally maintaining purse P in position. Tie spring v is provided with a pair of eyelet members v at the ends thereof in the openings of which members portions v project.

It will be apparent from the foregoing that each of the three fasteners shown includes an element inside purse P substantially coextensive with center line 0 of bag B and edge portion 0 of purse P.

It will be understood that I have illustrated and described herein a preferred embodiment of my invention, and that various alterations may be made in the details thereof without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

I claim as my invention:

1. A ladies bag-and-purse unit including a bag structure having a center line and comprising two parts adapted to be folded about said center line into and out of registry, a purse having an edge portion arranged in said center line of said bag structure, said edge portion of said purse being provided with a pair of spaced perforations, and fastener means for releasably securing said purse to said bag structure permanently affixed to said bag structure and having portions projecting through said pair of perforations in said edge portion of said purse into said purse, said fastener means including elements arranged transversely to said pair of perforations for precluding unintentional removal of said purse from said bag structure.
