Then switch 50 is moved to its second position to serve two purposes: It opens the circuit 98 so that lamp 91 is deenergized and it causes current to flow through the first relay 100 coil 101 thereby adjusting this relay so that it assumes the second position shown in full line in FIGURE 7. Relay 100 is self-maintained in this position since there is a current path established through the first normally closed target switch 71. Moreover, when relay 100 is in the second position that is, pulled in, the first signal circuit 114 is open.
  • FIGURE 8 shows relay 158 in the deenergized position. Since the relay 158 was not energized, current flows through the second signal circuit to energize lamp 121 by Way of contacts 2, 4 and 3, conductors 167 and 169 and back to the source 84. Therefore, the second signal circuit was closed with the lamp 121 burning.
  • the reset button of switch 154 must be operated and cause relay 158 to pull in the reset switch 154 establishing a circuit through the coil 173, conductor 170, switch 156 to source 84 and from source 84 through conductor 169 to the same switch 154.

(Cl. 273-1022) This invention relates to a device for timing gun drawing and accurate shooting for both amusement and practice, and further relates to a dueling attachment for the timing device.
An object of the invention is to provide a device for timing gun drawing and indicating accuracy in shooting after drawing, wherein a uniquely arranged electric circuit enables a time period to be commenced for drawing during which the shooter may quickly draw his gun and fire at a target. Should the target be hit before the time period expires, a signal circuit, preferably having a hit lamp therein, is closed, signalling a successful hit of the target prior to the expiration of the time period. However, if the expiration of the period comes before the target is hit or if the target is missed, a different signal circuit is closed to indicate the unsuccessful endeavor of the shooter. One of the features of the invention is the circuit arrangement which prevents the successful or hit signal circuit from closing after the expiration of the time period. As a result, if the target is hit after the period has expired, the hit signal circuit does not close.
Another feature of the invention is the time setting structure being merely a ball on an inclined plane. The angularity of the inclined plane can be adjusted so that the duration of the time period is correspondingly adjusted. The inclined plane and rolling element, preferably a ball, is unique in that there is a pair of switches, constituting a part of the aforementioned circuit, one located at the start of the travel of the ball and the other located at the end of the travel of the ball. Therefore the distance through which the ball travels is always fixed by spacing of the switches. Moreover, the switches constitute part of the electric circuit and are operated by the ball at the verybeginning of the time period and at the end of the time period.
A further object of the invention is to provide a duelling unit that is separably coupled with the above described timing device circuit enabling the timing device to show the first of a pair of shooters to have successfully drawn his gun and struck his target.
The duelling unit provides an additional target that is operatively connected with the circuit of the timing device in a way that the striking of one target closes a signal circuit associated with that target and locks out the signal circuit connected with the other target. Hence, only the successful shooter, that is, the first to strike the target, has his signal circuit energized, regardless of subsequent hitting of the unsuccessful shooters target.
In the device to time drawing there are two signal circuits, one indicating success and the other indicating failure to strike the target within a specified time whose duration is adjustable. When the duelling unit is connected with the device that times gun drawing, the same two signal circuits are used, although the plugging in of the duelling unit automatically converts the signal circuits to difierent functioning. The successful or hit signal circuit retains its function namely, it is associated with the target in a device to time gun drawing. But the unsuccessful or miss signal circuit in the device to time drawing, is converted to a hit signal circuit that becomes operatively associated with the second target, namely the target supplied by a duelling unit or attachment plugged in or otherwise operatively connected with the device to time gun drawing These together with other objects and advantages which 3,005,634 Patented-Oct. 24, 1961 will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

In the accompanying drawings (FIGURE 1) there is a table 10 representing a convenient supporting surface for base 12 on which control box 14 is rested and to which timing structure 16 is secured. The timing structure is composed of an inclined plane 18 supported on a pivot 20 near the lower end and supported by legs 21 and 22 between the lower and upper ends. 'U-shaped bracket 24 is secured to base 12 and has pivot 20 passed through an opening in its sides and through an opening in the inclined plane 18 so that the inclined planecan be pivotally adjusted about the axis of pivot 20. A movable element, for instance ball 26, is disposed on the inclined plane and is constrained in its travel since the inclined plane is made with an upwardly opening guide 28 in an elongate strip 30. Markings 32, graduated in time, are on one side of strip 30, and they are used with pointer 34 on saddle 36 within which the lower part of the inclined plane strip 30 is disposed. The saddle is substantially U-shaped and has a transverse sleeve 38 at its lower part through which the connecting part 40 of legs 21 and 22 is passed. The lower ends of the legs 21 and 22 are angled to fit within the saddle bearings 46 and 48 that are attached to base 12. Therefore both legs are capable of pivoting on base 12 so that the saddle 36 can be slid to selected positions beneath strip 30 and hold it in selected elevations with the pointer 34 registering with one of the graduations 32 to indicate how long it takes for element 26 to roll from the upper part of the inclined plane to the lower end thereof. The saddle is held fastened in the selected adjusted positions on strip 30 by setscrew 48 that is carried by saddle 36 and that frictionally engages a part of the strip 30 (FIGURE 4).
A single-pole double-throw time initiating switch 50 is at the upper end of the timing structure 16 and is adapted to be actuated by element 26. The single-pole double-throw switch 50 has a contactor 51 that is normally in a first position at which it engages stationary contact 52, although the switch can be moved to its second position (FIGURE 2) at which the movable contact 51 engages fixed contact 53. The switch structure is mechanically simple, including a case 54 attached to strip 30 and supporting spring metal arm 55 that functions as the movable contact 51. Insulating block 56 carried by switch casing 54 is used to support the arm 55. The stationary or fixed contacts 52 and 53 are conductive brackets attached to an insulation support, and this may be a part of the electrically insulating strip 30 and/or 'a separate insulating block such as insulating block 57.
A normally opened time completion switch 60 is mounted at the lower end of the strip 30. The switch has three fixed contacts 61, 62 and 63 carried by an insulating support 64 in switch casing 65, the latter securedto strip 30. The movable contact 66 is secured to insulating support 64 and is adapted to simultaneously bridge contacts 61, 62 and 63 when moved to the switch closed position by element 26 striking the spring metal movablecontact 66 at the termination of the travel of the element on the inclined plane 18. Lateral deflectors 67 and 68, such as small plates on the side of strip 30 near switch 60, prevent the element 26 from jumping from guide 28 in inclined plane 18 when the element strikes the movable contact 66.
Target 70 (FIGURES and 6) has a target switch 71 which is normally closed. The target is made of a target board 73 separably attached by clamp 74 to the upper part of an arm or plate 75. The lower part of this plate is attached byhinge 76 to a base 72 with plate 75 and board 73 tilted forwardly slightly with respect to a vertical plane.
The normally closed target switch 71 is constructed of a fixed contact 78 attached to and electrically insulated from base 72, together with a movable contact 79 that is secured to plate 75. The contacts 79 and 78 are ordinarily in engagement with each other (FIGURE 6 and they function as a mechanical stop for the plate 75 and board 73 holding it in a position slightlytilted with respect to a vertical plane. When the target is hit, plate 75 is moved rearwardly with contact 79 striking the part 80 of hinge 76 that is attached to base 72. This movement at least instantaneously separates contacts 78 and 79 thereby opening switch 71. The rebound of the plate 75 and board 73 may cause switch 71 to again close or the switch 71 can remain open, this being indifferent to the operation of the invention. The only thing necessary isthat the normally closed switch 71 open in response to a hit on the target.
The wiring shown in FIGURE 7 extends between the various switches and a source 84 of electrical potential. The wiring is connected with the switches in the usual manner, for instance by soldering, binding posts, clips or the like. It is conveniently run between mechanical parts of the device, and by and large it is concealed. For instance the circuit conductors extending between the'two position single-pole double-throw time initiat ing switch and the normally open time completion switch 60 are concealed in conductor channel 83' in the lower part of strip 30.
Thecircuit shown in FIGURE 7 is described concurrently with the operation of the invention. The first step is to close switch 88 that is connected in conductor 89, thelatter extending from source 84 and having one function of controlling an indicator circuit 98 having circuit conductor or wire 90 in which a go signal lamp 91 is connected. A number of such lamps can be connected in parallel with lamp 91 and therefore parallel circuit 92 is connected across lamp 91 and has a jack 93 therein to show that additional lamps such as lamp 91 can be plugged in and positioned at various locations adjacent the lamp 91 or distantfrom it; Conductor 90 extends The'rolling element 26 that is preferably a ball, is placed on the inclined plane 18 at the start position, this being the upper end of the inclined plane. The ball is pressed against movable contact 51 of the time initiating switch 50, moving the switch to its second position at which the movable contact 51 engages the fixed contact 53 as shown in dotted line in FIGURE 7. This breaks the circuit 98 so that lamp or lamps 91 no longer glow. At the same time the two position relay 100 having a coil 101, movable contact 102 and first position fixed contact 104 together with second position fixed contact 103, is energized. The normal position of the relay is with fixed contact 104 in engagement with the movable contact 102. When time initiating switch 50 is moved to its second position current can flow from source 84 through a part of conductor 90, the normally closed target switch 71, conductor 108, coil 101 of relay 100, conductor 109 extending from coil 101 to contact 53 of switch 50, and then through conductors 94, 89 and switch 88 to complete the circuit having the coil of relay 100 in it. This energizes the coil of the relay, pulling in the relay armature to reset it. The purpose of the second position of time initiating switch 50 is to reset the relay 100 before each timing sequence is begun. At the moment that the relay 100 pulls in, that is, moves to a position where contacts 102 and 103 engage each other, a first signal circuit 114 is opened. This signal circuit is represented as a conductor 115 attached to contact 104 of relay 100 and connected to conductor 90 whereby connection to one side of the electrical potential source 84 is accomplished. The conductor 115, being connected with contact 104 goes to the opposite side of source 84 through conductor 89 and switch 88. Note that the first signal circuit 114 is closed at the moment that switch 88 is closed and therefore the first signal lamp is lit when the circuit is closed, but this is immaterial since first signal circuit 114 is opened at the instant that doublethrow time-initiating switch is moved from its first position to its second position ( contacts 51 and 53 in engagement). The first signal circuit can have one or more lamps 118 connected therein to give a visual signal, although all signals are interchangeable between visual and audible such as a bell or horn. The first signal circuit is intended to designate a successful hit of target 70 and therefore the signal circuit 114 cannot be closed unless relay 100 is in its first position-at which contact 102 and contact 104 touch. Once relay 100 achieves its second position it will maintain that position regardless of the future position of switch 60 due to the flow of current through the coil 100 by way of the normally closed target switch 71 and conductor 108.
A second signal circuit 120 includes a lamp 121 and a conductor 122 attached to conductor 109 and to contact 63 of the normally open time completion switch 60 and to contact 103 of relay 100. Since normally open time completion switch 60 is between source 84 and circuit 120, the second signal circuit is ordinarily open.
Assume now that the ball is released, after moving switch 50 to its second position. The ball rolls down the inclined plane, and circuit 98 is closed thereby energizing lamp 91 which is arbitrarily designated as the go lamp. Relay 100 remains in its second position that is, with contacts 102 and 103 engaging. Signal circuit 114 is therefore, open, and so is the second signal circuit 120. The person with the gun is now drawing the gun from his holster, aiming the gun at target 70 and firing the gun at the target. Assume that the gun shooter is successful and hits the target before the ball closes the normally open time completion switch 60. When target 70 is hit the normally closed contacts 79 and 78 of target switch 71 are momentarily open. This interrupts the fiow of current through through relay 100 because switch 71 is in series with the source 84 of electrical potential and coil 101 of the relay. This causes the relay to fall out and assume its first position that is, with contacts 102 and 104 in engagement, postulating a conventional relay.
This causes the first signal circuit-114 to be closed through the circuit path thereof which has been described, and'the first signal circuit is conductive thereby energizing lamp 118, a bell, a horn etc. When the ball 26 strikes movable contact 66 (FIGURE 3), the time completion switch 60 is closed, but the second signal circuit 120 will remain open because this second signal circuit depends on the relay 100 being in its second position (contact 102 engaging contact 103) for completion, and the relay is now in its first position. 7
Assume now that the gun shooter is unsuccessful in his attempt to shoot the target or in his attempt to hit the target before the ball 26 closes the time completion switch 60. This means that the ball 26 closes normally open switch 60 before the normally closed switch 71 is opened. When switch 60 closes the second signal circuit 120 will immediately close since the second signal circuit is wired with a series connection between the source 84, switch 60, and the second or pulled in position ( contacts 103 and 102 in engagement) of relay 100. The flow of current is through part of conductor 90, conductor 129 attached to conductor 90 and terminal 61 of switch 60, switch contactor or movable contact 66, conductor 122, lamp 121, a part of conductor 109, contacts 103 and 102, conductor 89, switch 88 and then source 84 again. Relay 100 is in this position that is, the second position shown in full lines in FIGURE 2, because the target has not been hit to open the circuit that has normally closed switch 71 and the coil 101 of the relay in it.
Note that when switch 60' closes it also shorts out the target switch 71, and relay 100' cannot fall out (moved to its first position) even if a hit is made on the target. Therefore, the second signal circuit will not be completed even if the gun shooter hits the target an instant after ball 26 closes switch 60.
The previous description applies to the device when used for timing gun drawing and accurate shooting. The same equipment can be used for duelling by the inclusion of an attachment or duelling unit 150 (FIGURE 9). The unit 150 can be constructed in a number of ways but it is preferred that it be made as a neat casing 152 with a reset switch 154, an additional target 155 having an additional or second normally closed target switch 156, a second two position relay 158 and a cable 159 with a plug 160 thereon to attach to switch 60. Briefly, the duelling unit furnishes a structure for shorting out the " contacts 61, 62 and 63 of normally open switch 60 at the instant that the normally closed switch 156 of the second tar-get 155 is hit. Other than connecting cable 159 to switch 60, the only physical connection between the duelling attachment and the circuit of FIGURE 7, is established by conductor 166 extending from switch 156 to contact 102 of the first two position relay 100. Cable 159 has three conductors 167, 168 and 169 which are connected respectively to the contacts 63, 62 and 61 of normally open switch 60. Conductor 167 is connected to terminal 2 of relay 158; conductor 168 is connected to terminal 1' of relay 158; and conductor 169 is connected to contact or terminal 3- of relay 158. However, there is a conductor 170 extending between contacts 3 and of relay 158, and it has reset switch 154 in it. Therefore, conductor 170 extends to the coil 173 of relay 158, then it continues to one side of a normally closed switch 156, the other side having been described as connected by conductor 166 to contact 102 of relay 100. Although relay 158 has more contacts than relay 100, each of the relays are two-position conventional relays that are electromagnetically operated.
For duelling, two persons fire at the first and second targets at a given signal and the first to strike his target is designated by the energization of the particular signal circuit that is connected with the hit target. The two signal circuits 114 and 120 are the same circuits disclosed in FIGURE 7.
At the beginning of the duelling sequence switch 88 is closed. Relay is in its first position thereby completing signal circuit 114 so that the lamp 118 will be illuminated. The time initiating switch 50 is in its first position so that the go lamp 91 will be energized. Then switch 50 is moved to its second position to serve two purposes: It opens the circuit 98 so that lamp 91 is deenergized and it causes current to flow through the first relay 100 coil 101 thereby adjusting this relay so that it assumes the second position shown in full line in FIGURE 7. Relay 100 is self-maintained in this position since there is a current path established through the first normally closed target switch 71. Moreover, when relay 100 is in the second position that is, pulled in, the first signal circuit 114 is open.
Consider what has happened to the duelling attachment or unit circuit containing relay 158 during this adjustment. When switch 88 was first closed, relay 158 remained deenergized that is, it was not pulled in, considering the relay to a conventional electromagnetically operated relay. FIGURE 8 shows relay 158 in the deenergized position. Since the relay 158 was not energized, current flows through the second signal circuit to energize lamp 121 by Way of contacts 2, 4 and 3, conductors 167 and 169 and back to the source 84. Therefore, the second signal circuit was closed with the lamp 121 burning. Accordingly, the reset button of switch 154 must be operated and cause relay 158 to pull in the reset switch 154 establishing a circuit through the coil 173, conductor 170, switch 156 to source 84 and from source 84 through conductor 169 to the same switch 154. Relay 158 will maintain this pulled in position due to the current path through coil 173 and its contacts 5 and 3. Note that when relay 158 is pulled in, contact 2 is open and therefore the second signal circuit is also open.
Assume now that the first target 70 is hit before the second target 155. When the contacts of the normally closed switch 71 are opened momentarily, as by a projectile striking target 70, relay 100 will fall out and assume its first position. This closes the first signal circuit 114, and the second signal circuit cannot be closed because relay 100 is in its first position. Therefore, if the second target 155 is now hit thereby momentarily opening the contacts of normally closed switch 156, relay 158 will fallout, but this Will not close the second signal circuit.
Assume now that the second target 155 is hit before the first target 70. The contacts of the second target switch 156 are momentarily opened, and the second relay 158 will fall out, that is, the second relay will move to its second position. Current will flow through the second signal circuit 120 by way of contacts 103 and 102 of relay 100 and contacts 2, 4 and 3 of relay 158. Further, since contacts 1 and 3 of relay 158 are shorted out, a subsequent hit on the first target 70 cannot cause relay 100 to move to its first position (fall out). Relay 100remains energized through the circuit from source 84 to contact 61, conductor 169, relay contacts 3 and 1, conductor 168, contact 62, conductor 108, coil 101, contact 102, conductor 89, switch 88 to source '84. The result is that the first signal circuit cannot be closed under these conditions. The control box 14, like the duelling unit attachment casing, can be located at any convenient place and'can have the signal circuit lamps, buzzers, bells, etc. conveniently located therein. Furthermore the device to time gun drawing used with or without the duelling attachment, can be used for practice, tests, amusement, and for any other use that would occur to one skilled in this art. The principles of the invention are applicable with guns having live ammunition or with toy guns or guns with ammunition other than live ammunition, such as pellets and BBs.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described,
and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within thescope of the invention as claimed.
'What is claimed as new is as follows:
l. A device to time gun drawing and shooting, said device comprising a target having a normally closed target switch adapted to be opened by hitting the target, an electric potential source connected to said target switch, a two-position relay having first position and second position contacts and a coil in series with said target switch, a single-pole double-throw time initiating switch in series with said relay coil, a conductor extending from said time initiating switch to said'source so that said relay coil is energized when said time initiatingswitch is momentarily moved from its first normal position to a second position thereby actuating said relay to its second position, a first signal circuit connected in series with the first position contacts of said relay so that said signal circuit is opened when said relay coil is energized a second signal circuit con nected with said source through said relay second position contacts, a normally open time completion switch in said second signal circuit and connected across said relay coil and target switch, a timing structure adapted to close said time completion switch at a time interval after said time initiating switch is returned from its second position to said first normal position during which interval the target may be shot; and it hit said target switchis momentarily opened thereby interrupting the flow of current through said relay coil causing it to return to its first position at which said first position contacts thereof are closed thereby closing said first signal circuit.
2. A device to time gun drawing and shooting, said device comprising a target having a normally closed target switch adapted to be opened by hitting the target, an electric potential source connected to said target switch, a twoposition relay having first position and second position contacts and a coil in series with said target switch, a single-pole double-throw time initiating switch in series with said relay coil, a conductor extending from said time initiating switch to said source so that said relay coil is energized when said time initiating switch is momentarily moved from its first normal position to a second position thereby actuating said relay to its second position, a first signal circuit connected in series with the first position contacts of said relay so that said signal circuit is opened when said relay coil is energizeda second signal circuit connected with said source through said relay second position contacts, a normally open time completion switch in said second signal circuit and connected across said relay coil and target switch, a timing structure adapted to close said time completion switch at a time interval after said time initiating switch is returned from its second position to said first normal position during which interval the target may be shot; and if hit said target switch is momentarily opened thereby interrupting the flow of current through said relay coil causing it to return to its first position at which said first position contacts thereof are closed thereby closing said first signal circuit, and if missed and said time completion switch is closed said target switch is shorted out so that a target hit thereafter will not change the position of the relay, and said second signal circuit is closed by said time completion switch.
3.- A device to time gun drawing and shooting, said device comprising a target having a normally closed target switch adapted to be opened by hitting the target, an electric potential source connected to said target switch, a two-position relay having first position and second position contacts and a coil in series with said target switch, a single-pole double-throw time initiating switch in series with said relay coil, a conductor extending from said time initiating switch to said source sothat said relay coil is energized when said time initiating switch is momentarily moved from its first normal position to a second position thereby actuating said relay to its second position, a first signal circuit connected in series with the first position contion contacts, a normally open time completion switch in said second signal circuit and connected across said relay coil and target switch, a timing structure adapted to close said time completion switch at a time interval'after said time initiating switch is returned from its second position to said first normal position during which interval the target may be shot; and if hit said target switch is momentarily opened thereby interrupting the flow of current through said relay coil causing it to return to its first position at which said first position contacts thereof are closed thereby closing said first signal circuit, and if missed and said time completion switch is closed said target switch is shorted out so that a target'hit thereafter will not change the position of the relay, and said second signal circuit is closed by said time completion switch, a main control switch in said conductor between said potential source and said contacts of said relay. and a go lamp circuit between the source of potential and said double-throw time initiating switch and adapted to be opened by movement of said time initiating switch to the said one position thereof.
4. The device of claim 2 wherein said timing structure comprises an inclined plane, a movable element adapted to be gravity pulled down said inclined plane, said time completion switch located in the path of travel of said movable element.
5. The device of claim 2 wherein said timing structure comprises an inclined plane, a movable element adapted to be gravity pulled down said inclined plane, and means to support said inclined plane at selected angles to adjust the duration of said time interval.
6. A duelling device comprising a first target having a normally closed target switch and adapted to be opened by hitting the target, an electric potential source connected to said target switch, a two position relay having first position and second position contacts and a coil which is in series with said target switch, a singlepole double-throw time initiating switch in series with said relay coil, a conductor extending from said time initiating switch to said source so that said relay coil is energized when said time initiating switch is moved to one position and thereby actuating said relay to its second position, a first signal circuit in series with the first position contacts of said relay so that said signal circuit is opened when said relay coil is energized there by to adjust the relay from said first to said second position,.a second signal circuit connected with said source through said relay second position contacts, a second target provided with a normally closed second target switch and adapted to be opened when hit, means operatively connecting said second target switch with said second signal circuit and including a normally open switch in said second signal circuit and connected across said relay coil and target switch, a two position second relay having a group of contacts and a coil which is in series with said normally open switch and saidnormally closed second target switch, means operatively connecting said second signal circuit with some of the contacts of said second relay and to said source to establish a circuit path for said second signal circuit when said second relay is in a first position and to open said second signal circuit when said second relay is in its second position whereby said first or said second signal circuits are closed in response to the hitting of the first or the second target respectively while the signal circuit associated with the unhit or the subsequently hit target remains open.
7. The duelling device of claim 6 wherein there is a go light circuit between said-source of electric potential and said double-throw time initiating switch and adapted to be opened bymovement of said time initiating switch to the said one position thereof.
8. In a target device which has a target, a first signal circuit adapted to connect with a source of electrical potential, a second signal circuit adapted to connect to a source of electrical potential, means including a relay holding said first signal circuit open, means connected with said relay permitting the closure of said first signal circuit in response to a hit on said target, said last named means including a normally closed switch serially connected to said relay, and means operatively connecting said first to said second signal circuit maintaining said second circuit open when said first circuit is closed.

In a target device which has a target, a first signal circuit adapted to connect with a source of electrical potential, a second signal circuit adapted to connect to a source of electrical potential, means including a relay holding said first signal circuit open, means connected with said relay permitting the closure of said first signal circuit in response to a hit on said target, said last named means including a normally closed switch serially connected to said relay, and means operatively connecting said first to said second signal circuit maintaining said second circuit open when said first circuit is closed, said second signal circuit having a normally opened switch adapted to be closed, said normally open switch connected between said source of electrical potential and said second signal circuit.

In a target device which has a target, a first signal circuit adapted to connect with a source of electrical potential, a second signal circuit adapted to connect to a source of electrical potential, means including a relay holding said first signal circuit open, means connected with said relay permitting the closure of said first signal circuit in response to a hit on said target, said last named means including a normally closed switch serially connected to said relay, and means operatively connecting said first to said second signal circuit maintaining said second circuit open when said first circuit is closed, said second signal circuit having a normally opened switch adapted to be closed, said normally open switch connected between said source of electrical potential and said second signal circuit, a second target having a second target switch, conductive means connecting said second target switch with said source, and means also connected with said said target switch and connected with said normally open switch for shorting out said normally open switch when said second target switch is actuated thereby closing said signal circuit.

In a target device which has a target, a first signal circuit adapted to connect with a source of electrical potential, a second signal circuit adapted to connect to a source of electrical potential, means including a relay holding said first signal circuit open, means connected with said relay permitting the closure of said first signal circuit in response to a hit on said target, said last named means including a normally closed switch serially connected to said relay, and means operatively connecting said first'to said second signal circuit maintaining said second circuit open when said first circuit is closed, said second signal circuit having a normally opened switch adapted to be closed, said normally open switch connected between said source of electrical potential and said second signal circuit, a second target having a second target switch, conductive means connecting said second target switch with said source, and means also connected with said target switch and connected with said normally open switch for shorting out said normally open switch when said second target switch is actuated thereby closing said signal circuit, and preventing said first signal circuit from closing as aforesaid, said second target and second target switch and said means connected with said second target switch constituting an attachment which is electrically separably connected with said first signal circuit and said second signal circuit.

In a target device which has a target, a first signal circuit adapted to connect with a source of electrical potential, a second signal circuit adapted to connect to a source of electrical potential, means including a relay holding said first signal circuit open, means connected with said relay permitting the closure of said first signal circuit in response to a hit on said target, said last named means including a normally closed switch serially connected to said relay, and means operatively connecting said first to said second signal circuit maintaining said second circuit open when said first circuit is closed, said second signal circuit having a normally opened switch adapted to be closed, said normally open switch connected between said source of electrical potential and said second signal circuit, a timing structure having a movable element for closing said normally open switch and adapted to compete in terms of time with the hitting of said target. t
13. The combination of claim 12 wherein said timing structure has means to adjust the time required for said element to close said normally open switch after said movable element is set into motion.
14. The combination of claim 12 wherein said timing structure has a switch, a go signal circuit controlled by the last mentioned switch and connected with said source of electrical potential.
