Filed Oct. 10, 1960 INVENTOR. AXE-L ROBERT SANDCkREN United States Patent O 3,005,558 HOLDER DEVICE FOR CLOTHES SUSPENDERS Axel Robert Sandgren, Stockholm, Sweden, assignor to AB Armaturhantverk, Tibro, Sweden, a corporation of Sweden Filed Oct. 10, 1960, Ser. No. 61,644 Claims priority, application Sweden Oct. 10, 1959 4 Claims. (Cl. 211-123) dimensions of the slot and the groove, however, being somewhat less than the dimensions of the ball but somewhat greater than the thickness of said rod. With the ball the rod is entered into the aperture and the ball then hangs in the interior of the tube on both sides of the slot. The arrangement of the slot, the groove and the aperture requires much cutting and milling work and thus the device is expensive in manufacture. Another drawback in such a device is to be seen in the fact that the suspenders as they have no hook cannot be suspended on other clothes rail and the like.
The purpose of this invention is to overcome the drawbacks recited here above simultaneously as the device prevents the suspenders from falling down from the bar. Normal clothes suspenders with a ball-shaped head portion at the upper free end of the suspending hook can be used. The device is rather cheap in manufacture.
The main feature of the invention is that above and parallel with the bar carrying the suspenders there is arranged a rail situated at a distance from said bar being somewhat greater than the wire diameter of the suspending hook but being somewhat less than the Width of the head portion, said rail at its lower border provided with notches, said head portion of the suspending hook adapted to be entered through said notches when the hook is being hung on said bar.
The invention will now be elucidated with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the drawings:
FIGURE 1 is a partly longitudinally cut and partly broken front view of a holder according to the invention arranged under a hat rail or a clothes closet shelf,
FIGURE 2 shows a vertical section through the device on the line 11-11 in FIGURE 1,
FIGURE 3 is a plan view of the left hand bracket forming part of the device,
FIGURE 4 is a partly longitudinally cut and broken front view of the left hand portion and the central portion of a holding device according to the invent-ion when used on a hat rail,
FIGURE 5 shows a vertical section through the hat rail,
FIGURE 6 is a side elevation of one bracket of the hat rail, and
FIGURE 7 is a front view of one end of the rail with a carrying tube forming part of the device according to the invention.
Referring now to the embodiment shown in FIGURES 1-3, the holder device is adapted to be arranged on the under side of a hat rail or a clothes closet shelf 1. The holder device comprises two end brackets 2, 3 andindependent of the length of the holderone or numerous intermediary brackets 4. The brackets 2, 3 carry the ends of a tubular bar 5. Plugs 6 are forced into the ends of the rod and each plug 6 has an axial, threaded bore 7 for engagement with a bolt 8 passing through the brackets 2, 3. The bar 5 extends through a corresponding bore in the brackets 4. The brackets 2, 3, 4 carry also a rail 9 having an L-shaped cross section and being provided with notches 10 having their openings towards the bar 5. The rail 9 extends parallel to the bar 5 and above the latter in such a way that a pass-age 11 is formed between the bar and the lower edge of the rail 9. The distance between the bar 5 and the rail 9 is somewhat greater than the Wire thickness of the suspending hook 13 of the clothes suspender. The hook has, at its upper (free) end, a ball shaped head portion 14. The height of the passage 11 is somewhat less the height of the head portion 14 but the width of the notch 10 is somewhat greater than the thickness of the head portion 14. In this way it is rendered possible to enter the head portion 14 of the hook 13 through the notch 10 and then to move the suspenders sidewards with the hook 13 sliding on the bar 5.
In the position shown in FIGURE 1, the suspender 12 cannot undeliberately leave the bar and fall down from the same.
The brackets 2, 3, of which the bracket 2 is shown in FIGURE 3, are provided with apertures 15 for attachment screws 16. A slot 17 extends vertically through the bracket and said slot 17 is passed through by the vertical branch 18 of the rail 9 (shown with dash and dot lines in FIGURE 3), the horizontal branch 19 resting with one end on a shoulder 20 disposed below the upper plane of the attachment plate 21 of the bracket. At the attachment only the rail 9 has to be lowered into the slot 17 in such a way that the transverse branch 19 is brought torest on the shoulders 20. There is no need of screws for the attachment of the rail 9.
The embodiment of the holder device shown in FIG- URES 4-7 is meant to be used as a hat rail. This embodiment comprises two end brackets 22 and, independent of the length of the tube, one or numerous intermediary brackets 23. The brackets 22, 23 are provided with an attachment plate 24 and are meant to be attached to the wall by means of screws 25. The ends of a bar 27 are, by means of bolts 26, attached to the outer ends of the brackets 22 in essentially the same way as described in the aforegoing. Said bar 27 serves as a carrier for the hooks 13 of the clothes suspenders 12. Rods 29, 30 are attached to the brackets 22 by means of bolts 28, said rods 29, 30 extending parallel to each other and being situated on the same level and serving for carrying hats and the like. The foremost rod 30 situated above the holder bar 27 has a downwardly directed rail 31 serving the same purpose as the rail 9 in the embodiment according to FIGURES 1-3. The rail 31 which, according to FIGURE 5, is integral with the rod 30, has notches 32 at its lower border with their opening towards the bar 27. The lower border of the rail 31 is situated at some distance from the holding bar 27 in such a. Way that a passage 33 is shaped between'said bar 27 and said lower border. The dimensions of the passage 33 and the notches 32 correspond to the dimensions of the passage 11 and the notches 10 of the embodiment shown in FIGURES 1-3.
Thus, also the device according to FIGURES 4-7 prevents the suspending hooks 13 from an undeliberate falling down from the holder bar 27 As obvious from FIGURES 4 and 6, the brackets 22 are in the vicinity of the aperture 34 for the bolt 28 provided with a vertical, longitudinal aperture 35 for engagement with a tongue 36 (only one shown in FIG- URE 7) extending beyond the ends of the carrier bar 30. It is evident that the tongues 36 prevent a turning 'cept'as defined in the appended claims. The different parts of the holding device can be constructively modified in many ways within the scope of the invention and so can the brackets 2, 3, 4, 22, and 23 as well as the rails 9 and 31.
What I ciaim is:
1. In a holding device for clothes suspenders having a suspending hook with a head portion at its outer end, the holding device having a bar for carrying'the suspenders side by side, a rail arranged above and parallelto said bar and situated at a distance from the same, said distance being somewhat greater than the Wire thickness of the suspending hook but being somewhat less than the height of said head portion of said hook, said rail at its lower border having notches for the passage of said head portion of said suspending hook when the suspender is arranged on said bar. 7

4. In a holding device for clothes suspenders having a suspending hook with a head portion at its outer end, the holding device having a bar supported at its ends by brackets for carrying the suspenders side by side, a rail arranged above and'parallel to said bar and situated at a distance from the same, said distance being somewhat greater than the wire thickness of the suspending hook but being somewhat less than the height of said head portion of said hook, said rail at its lower border having notches for the passage of said head portion of said suspending hook when the suspender is arranged on said bar, said rail being integral with a carrier bar, the latter forming together with a plurality of other carrying bars on the same levei a shelf and being with its ends carried by said brackets, said rail engaging openings in said bracket by means of tongues extending beyond the ends of said carrier bar.
