COMBINATION IMPLEMENT FOR REMOVING SPOTS FROM FABRIC Filed Jan. 12, 1960 Frank D. Granaoos INVENTOR.
United States Patent COMBINATION IMPLEMENT FOR REMOVING SPOTS FROM FABRIC Frank D. Granados, 2644 E St., San Diego, Calif., as-
signor of fifty percent to George D. Lang-Dale, San Diego, Calif.
Filed Jan. 12, 1960, Ser. No. 1,892 6 Claims. (Cl. 68-222) This invention relates to improvements in implements for use in removing spots, or stains, from fabric in dry cleaning establishments, where spotting is required on a spotting board.
The primary object'of the invention is to provide a time and labor saving combination steam gun and brush for applying fluid cleaning agents to spots, or stains, and, or brushing the spots, or stains, according to requirements for removing spots of different kinds from different types of fabrics.
Another object is to provide a combination steam gun and brush for the above purposes which is very simple in construction, durable, easy to use with one hand, will not slip out of the hand, and is adapted for manufacture at a low cost.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the combination steam gun and brush implement in the preferred embodiment thereof;
FIGURE 2 is a similar View with the implement turned through an angle of substantially 90 degrees;
FIGURE 3 is an enlarged view in cross section taken on the line 33 of FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 4 is an enlarged view in cross section taken on the line 4--4 of FIGURE 2, and
FIGURE 5 is an enlarged fragmentary view in perspective of a nozzle part of the implement.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, the combination steam gun and brush of this invention comprises an elongate, preferably cylindrical body 1 of light strong material, such as wood, and which forms a handle. The body 1 is formed with a half round, or semi-spherical, front end portion 3 providing a flat bottomed elongated recess 5 in said front end portion 3 at one side of the body 1.
A cap 7 of rubber, or like material, is sleeved over and suitably fixed on the rear end of the body 1 to prevent said body 1 from slipping forwardly in the hand grasping the body 1 between said recess 5 and said cap 7 for using the body as a handle.
A brush 9 is attached to the front end portion 3 and which comprises a rectangular block or back 11 of wood for bristles 13. The back 11 fits flatly in the recess 5 and is detachably attached to said front end portion 3 by screws 15 with the bristles protruding outwardly beyond said body 1 at one side of the body.
A steam tube 17 extends longitudinally through the body 1 in the axis of said body and through a longitudinal central groove 19 in the back 11 and is rotatable in said body and has front and rear end portions 21, 23 extending out of the body 1. The rear end 23 of the tube 17 is straight and adapted to be attached by a hose, not shown, to a suitable source, not shown, of steam or other cleaning fluid under pressure to issue out of the front end portion 21 of said tube. A set screw 25 in said body 1 locks the tube 17 in differently rotated position in said body. The rear end 23 of the tube 17 is circumferentially grooved, as at 24, to facilitate retaining a hose thereon.
3,000,202 Patented Sept. 19, 1961 ICC The front end portion 21 of the tube 17 is curved forwardly and laterally of the body 1 with an elongated, widened, flattened terminal nozzle 27 of oval cross section spaced outwardly beyond the body 1 and forwardly of the brush 9. Because of this arrangement, the tube 17 may be rotated in the body 1 to position the nozzle 27 in angular relation, for example, a degree angular relation, to said brush '9, or said tube 17 may be rotated in the body 1 to position the nozzle in alignment with and forwardly of the brush 9 and facing in the same direction as the brush 9.
When the nozzle 27 and brush 9 are positioned in angular relation to each other, as shown in FIGURES l and 2, the body 1 may be slightly rotated by a quick turn of the wrist to position the brush 9 and nozzle 27 selectively in facing relation to a piece of fabric, not shown, for use "alternately in spotting. When the nozzle 27 is positioned in alignment with the brush 9, the'body may be held in the hand and both the brush 9 and nozzle 27 used in spotting, simultaneously, with the nozzle used for tapping the fabric if desired, in the usual manner.
The brush 9 when worn may be readily detached and replaced with another brush. The bore or groove 19 is preferably rectangular in cross-section and somewhat larger than the cross-section of the tube 17. Better still, the tube is preferably mounted in rectangular sleeves or bushings 20 fitted in the bore. With this construction air is permitted to circulate by way of the bore. Also, the tube is that spaced from the wall surfaces of said bore and undue heating of the handle is prevented.
The preceding description will, it is believed, sufiice to impart a clear understanding of the invention, without further explanation.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
