CHARLES WILLIAM BREWER, OF RACINE, WISCONSIN.
' AGRAFFE FOR PIANO SOUNDlNG-BOARDS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,664, dated May 13, 1884.
Application filed April 6, 1883. (No model.)
To (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. BREWER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Agrafies for Sounding-Boards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in piano-fortes; and it has for its objects to provide an improved agraffe for the same which can be readily applied to any style of piano-forte, so as to securely fasten the strings in such manner as to relieve the sounding-board of undue strain. These objects, I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective showing my invention, and Fig. 2 represents a detail elevation of the binding-screw.
The letter A indicates the sounding-board of a piano, and B the frame at the sides of the same, to which are attached the pins or studs 0 and 1), around which the strings or wires are passed and held in position.
The letter E indicates the tuning-pins, to which the ends of the wires are secured in the usual manner.
the wires, as shown.
The letter F indicates the bridge over which the wires pass, and to which they are clamped by the agraffe. The bridge is provided with frets G, or metallic projections over which the wires extend, the said wires being held and clamped to the same by means of a shouldered screw, H, the shoulder of which bears upon The binding-face or under side of the shoulder of the screw II is curved or rounded, so as to clamp the wire Without injuring it,
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
An agraffe for piano-fortes, consisting of two parallel frets applied to the bridge of the sounding board, and the shouldered screw rounded on the binding-face or the under side of the shoulder, and adapted to bear upon the wires between the frets, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony whereof I a'ffix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES WILLIAM BREWER.
