California7 have invented Improved Pres-- sure Bars for Piano-Strings, of which 'the following is a description.
The object of the invention isV to hold more iirmly those portions of certain treble strings of a piano which lie between the main bridge and the hitch pins, thereby changing' more or less the pressure of the strings on the bridge.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 shows diagrammatically the treble end of a piano plate with strings.
Fig. 2 shows in perspective the pressure bar and screw.
Fig. 3 shows the bar in place on the strings. Fig. 4 is a View at right angles to that of Fig. 3. A
As Fig. 1 shows, a short block or bar 20 extends across the two triplets or sets of strings numbered 16 and 17 from the top.
This .ba-r is located between the main bridge 21 and the hitch pins 22 and is held in placeY by a screw e into the soundingboardyand presses the strings slightly closer to the sounding board, thereby preventing rattling and increasing their pressure on the bridge, which in some cases improves the tone.
I claiin-u Y A piano having 'a short pressure bar extending across the strings for two treble notes only, in the region of N os. 16 and 17 from the top, said bar located between the soundingboard bridge and the hitch plate, and a screw drawing said bar toward the soundingboard7 substantially as described.
