ALE-PUMP AND ICE-BOX.

To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM GARDNER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Ale-Pump and Ice-Box, of which the followingis afull, clear,

and exact description.

My invention relates to improvements in ale-pumps and ice-boxes; and to this end it consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure l is a sectional plan view of my improved ice-box and ale-pump. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the same on the line m, Fig. 1, parts being broken out. Fig. 3 is a crosssectional elevation of thesame on the line y y, Fig. 1.

The box A is provided in its top with a door, 13, which can be hinged or arranged to slide, which door is opened to place the ice'in the box, or to place a keg of beer in the box. The front of the box is provided with a hinged or sliding. door, 0, which can be opened to place a keg of beer that is to be on tap into the box, which door 0 is provided in its bottom edge with a semicircular recess, 0, the bottom of the door opening being provided with a like recess for receiving the spigot. The ice is placed on ametal platform or tray, D, secured to the sides and ends of the box at about the middle of the height of the same. The said tray or platform D does not extend to the ends and sides of the box at all its points, but recesses or openings E are formed between the upturned sides or flanges of the tray and the sides and ends of the box, to permit a circulation of air, which openings can be closed by slides 'E, (shown in dotted lines,) so that when the slides or dampers are closed all the cold air will be concentrated in the upper air-chambers. If the ale is too cool, the slides are opened, and the temperature of the air thus raised. The rear of the box A is provided with heavy glass panes F, to admit light into the box above and below the iceplatform or tray D. The rear of the box is also provided with an aperture, H, through which a pipe can be passed,which leads from an ice-water receptacle to a cook or spigot on the rear of the box; or the said pipe can be 5 5 carried around the box to any suitable point,

to facilitate drawing ice-water. Below the icetray D the box is provided with a horlzontal partition, J, on which bottles, &c., containing liquors, aerated waters, &c., can be placed. Such bottles can also be placed on the fl 0or of the box A, below the horizontal part1t1 on J. The ice-tray D is provided with a suitable outlet-pipe, D. On the inner surface of the box a number of ale-pump cylinders, K, are held, the lower ends of which are connectedv by pipes L with the several ale-barrels. The upper ends of the cylinders K are provlded with tubes M, which project from the front of the box A, and are provided with cocks or faucets N for drawing the ale. The cocks N are held above a drip-tray, O, projectlng from the front of the box. In the cylinders K pump-pistons are placed, which can be operated by levers 1, pivoted in suitable standards on thetop of the box. Any suitable number of pump-cylinders K can be provided. The pump-cylinders K are made of such size that they can hold a considerable quantity of ale, which ale remains in the cylinders for a time, and is cooled by the ice resting on the ice tray or platform D. Kegs of lager-beer, 850., can be placed below the ice-tray D 111 that portion of the box not occupied by the horizontal partition J. If desired, pump-cyl 'inders K can be arranged at both ends of the box.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination, with the box A, of the ale-pump cylinders -K, secured to one side of the box, and provided with the pipes L at the lower ends, and the pipes M at their upper ends, projecting through the box, and having faucets N, and the lever P, pivoted in sultable supports on the top of the box, and connected to the pump-pistons, substantially as herein shown and described.

2. The combination, with the box A, provided with the ice-tray D, having openings I00 E, and slides E,of the pump-cylinders K, provided with the pipes L at their lower ends, and the pipes M at their upper ends, projecting through the box, and having faucets N, and the lever P, connected to the pistons of said 5 pumps, substantially as herein shown and described.
