Description
J. H. SIMS May 23, 1961 GAME Filed Dec. 3, 1959 INVENTOR. day/v H. S/MS BY United States Patent GAME John H. Sims, 1717 Catawba Ave., Columbia, S.C. Filed Dec. 3, '1959, Ser. No. 857,100
4 Claims. (Cl. 273-1) This invention relates to games and more particularly to games of skill.
An object of this invention is to provide a game, wherein by the manipulation of a pair of wands or sticks, nuts are threadably connected to bolts that are positioned vertically in a playing surface.
Another object of the invention is to provide colored squares in the playing surface surrounding the bolts and coloring the nuts to match the colored squares.
A further object of the invention is to provide a game box having transparent walls in which the game is played.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. l is a perspective view of the game box, partly broken away, that is used in playing the game, embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a detailed fragmentary sectional view showing the manner in which the bolts are mounted in the base or bottom of the game box of Fig. 1 and the manner in which the nuts are gripped by two wands or sticks for threadably connecting the nuts to the bolts;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a detailed sectional view of one corner of the game box of Fig. 1, on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, wherein like parts are designated by like reference numerals, the reference numeral is used to designate a game box used in playing the game embodying the invention.
The game box 10 comprises a rectangular shaped base or bottom 11 on which is mounted side walls 12 and 13, respectively, and end walls 14 and 15, respectively. A top 16 is mounted on the upperedges of the side and end walls and the edges of the side and end walls and top are connected together by means of a suitable adhesive. The side and end walls and top are made of a suitable transparent material so that the upper surface 17 of the base 11 may be viewed from any angle through the side and end walls and top.
A pair of parallel rows of openings 18 are positioned in the base 11. The rows are parallel to the side walls 12 and 13 and are equally spaced from each other. At one end of the rows a similar opening 18 is positioned centrally of the rows and outwardly of the ends of the rows. A bolt 19 is extended through each of the openings 18 in the bottom surface 20 of the base 11 so that the bolts 19 extend above the surface 17 of the base 11 in vertical relation thereto. Each of the openings 18 is countersunk as at 21 in the bottom surface 20 of the base 11 so that the head 22 of each of the bolts 19 are seated in each of the countersinks 21, Fig. 2.
A square 23 of a distinguishing and diflerent color is positioned on the surface 17 of the base 11 in circumjacent relation to each of the bolts 19. A nut 24 is provided for each of the bolts 19 and each of the nuts 24 is colored to match a particular square 23. As shown, I
there are two parallel rows of three bolts 19 and a single bolt 19 intermediate of the parallel rows, thus there are seven bolts 19 and seven nuts 24, with each nut 24 beatice ing a distinguishing color to match the squares 23 positioned in circumjacent relation to each of the bolts 19.
The top 16 of the game box 10 is provided with a pair of spaced openings 25 and 26, respectively, and the openings are positioned on the longitudinal axial line of the top 16 with one opening on each of the opposite sides of the transverse central line of the top 16.
To play the game a pair of wands 27 and 28, respectively, are used. Each of the wands 27 and 28 has a cutout 29 in one end thereof so that when the cutouts are positioned in opposite relation to each other, they form a seat for the nuts 24, Fig. 2. A wand is inserted through each of the openings 25 and 26, Fig. l, and the wands can be inserted through either opening as desired.
With a wand in each hand, the nuts 24 are selectively engaged between the cutouts 29 and by the proper manipulation of the wands, the nuts 24 are threadably connected to the bolts 19. The nuts 24 are matched with the colored squares 23 so that the colored squares 23 designate where each nut 24 is to be connected to a bolt 19.
The hands or arms of the player cannot rest on anything or on the game box 10 when the nuts 24 are connected to the bolts 19. To play the game nuts are dropped through the openings 25 and 26, the box is shaken and the player can be timed as to the length of time he requires to connect all of the nuts 24 to the bolts 19 or a time limit can be set to determine how many nuts 24 can be connected to the proper bolts 19 in the prescribed time.
The game is played entirely by the skill of the player as the nuts are connected to the bolts and it is believed that the manner of playing the game, as well as the construction of the equipment used to play the game, will be apparent to those skilled in the art from the foregoing description, and it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts of the playing equipment can be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit of the invention and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. In a game of skill the combination comprising a game box having transparent side and end walls mounted on a base and a transparent top mounted on the upper edges of said walls, a plurality of vertically disposed members positioned in said base, a plurality of loose members each having an opening therethrough to be selectively applied onto said vertically disposed members, said top being formed with a pair of openings, and a wand for each of said openings to be manipulated through said openings for applying said loose members onto said vertically disposed members.
2. The structure as defined in claim 1, wherein said vertically disposed members are the threaded ends of bolts, and said loose members are in the form of nuts to be threaded onto said bolt ends.
3. In a game of skill as in claim 2, wherein a colored square is positioned on the base in circumjacent relation to each bolt and the nuts are colored to match the squares.
4. In a game of skill as in claim 1, wherein one end of each of the wands has a cutout therein and when the cutouts are positioned in opposed relation to each other a seat is provided for the nuts.
