The object of this invention is to provide a folding counter-seat that canbe secured to the floor of the room without depending upon the counter for fastenings on supports, and be so constructed as to be conveniently and compactly closed up in front of the counter, and be opened or closed by a person when either in front or back of the counter. In this class of counter-seats, including folding seats generally, and of which Letters Patent of the United States No. 240,117 forms a feature, attachment has been made entirely to the counter, making it necessary that in construction the counter should be especially adapted to the purpose to insure firm fastenings for the seat, and also to resist the pressure tending to overturn it by the weight of a number of persons seated on such seats attached thereto. The great variety of designs in counter-fronts, as well as the difference in strength andsecurity of the parts to which such seats must be affixed, renders the object sufficiently plain.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation, showing the seat extended for use as operated by the trip, shown under the counter. Fig. 2 is the same closed up, with trip shown in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the seat extended for use, shown at end of counter. Fig. 4c is a section of top of seat. Fig. 5 is an under side view of top of seat. Fig. 6 is a front view of trip for tilting seat.

- The seat-top of support L is a suitable top for the fastenings, and consists, preferably,

of a circle of wood, 0, forming the frame for the cane or perforatedwood seat e, which is mounted on metal spider b, provided with cars it t and y y, for hinging of supports 0 0 and leg upon which the seat is tilted.

The supports 0 0 are provided with sleeves n n, to which the support 8 is attached.

LegL may be constructed of wood and metal, or either alone, but preferably with the upper end of metal, and forked for accommodation of thefolding arrangement, which consists of arm 8, hinged ath, extending to f, and being connected to the seat by link 22, and to the floor by rod r, and to the slide on leg L by a hinge, so that when the seat is moved, as in the act of closing, rod 1: moves arm 8 forward, throwing support 8 back, tipping top A down, and bringing all into-the position shown by Fig. 2, which can be done either by the hand applied to the seat or by applying the foot to'the trip m and closing it by the folding arrangement, which consists. of adjustable rod k, hinged to lower part of support 0, and of trip m, to which the other end of rod 76 is hinged, the trip m being made of metal and provided with two leaves placed in suitable positions for applying the foot, one to trip and extend the seat, and the other to close the seat by pressure, as shown by the drawings.- l v What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
