GHBRRY SEBDBR. No. 296,961.- Patented' Apr. 15, 1884.
Attorneys N. Pncns. mwummphzr. wzmimm ma ilivrrs WILLIAM F. I-IIBNER, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE SCOTT MANUFACTURING COMPANY OF BALTIMORE CITY.
CHERRY-SEEDER.
SPCIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,961, ated April 15, 1884.
.T aZZ w/"tom, itV may cancer,
Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. HIBNER, of Baltimore city and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oherry-Seeders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which- Figure lis a side elevation of a machine embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a longitudinal Vertical section through front plate and seeding mechanism. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the seeding mechanism. Fig. 4 is a section on line x x, Fig. 2.
Like letters of reference mark the same parts in all figures.
Myinvention relates to cherry-seeders; and *it consists in the improved construction and arrangenient and combination of parts hereinafter described, and specifically poin'ted out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, A is the main frame, which is 'provided with clamp a and clamp-screw a', whereby it maybe secured to 2 5 the table or other structure in any well-known manner. This frame is provided with a crossbrace, A, a-nd with a proj ecting arm or bracket, A2. This latter arm or bracket serves as support for the shaft or pivot b of a crankwheel, b', having a crank-pin, bz. This shaft b also carries a fly-wheel, B, provided with a suitable handle, 15', for turning it. Attached to the crank-pin b2 is a pitman, c, which is connected to a pin, d, secured to one side of a 3 5 slide, which consists of a rod, D, passing through one of the arms of the main frame, a trough, D', secured to said rod, and a tube attached to said trough moving in the other arm of the main frame A.
40,' Secured to thetube D2 is an upright, d', upon which is secured a shifting-plate, E, which is provided with a perforation, E', and which reciprocates with the sliding parts before mentioned.
Secured to or forming part of the upper end of the main frame is a plate, F. This-plate F t serves as one side of a box, G, the other parts ot' which are the front, f, and sides and bottom,f', and top, fz.
These parts are properly secured together, and the top f2 is provided with a hole, fa, (see Figs. 2 and 4,) while the front plate, f, is provided with suitable apertures, f4 and f, through which, respectively, the plate E and tube Dz reciprocate.
Sccured within the tube D2 is a plate, H, having attached to its bottom a smaller tube,
h, open at both ends. Attached to the front plate, f, is a plate, I, similar in construction to the plate H, and having at its bottom a tube, i, similar in construction but larger than the tube h, before referred to. The front end of the tube DAz is cut off at about an angle of forty-five degrees, for reasons which are hereinafter specified.
The operation of my device may be described as follows: Al suitable hopper having been placed on top of the machine, with its opening coincident or registering with the opening]63 in the top of the box G, and the cherries having been placed in the hopper, are allowed to fall one by one through the bottom of the hopper and the hole 3, and in their descent they will pass singly through the hole E' in the plate E, when said hole is, by the reciprocation of said plate, brought beneath and made to register with the hole in the top fz. Having passed through this hole E', the tube D'z being withdrawn, the cherry will drop into the front of the tube D2, which tube will now be thrown forward by the' slide, pitman, and crank, and the small tube lt will be forced through the cherry, and, being smaller than the stone or seed, will force it out of the fruit into the tube i. The tube DAJ being again retracted, the cherry before mentioned being I impaled upon the tube h., will be carried back with it. Another cherry now drops into the front of the tube D2, and the same operation is repeated. The plate E, having been reciprocated with the tube D, has permitted another cherry to drop down. ,Vhen the tube h has been pressed through another cherry the one formerly pierced by it will be forcedback- Ward off the rear end of it into the tube D2, and the continuous repetition of this'operation will force the seeded cherries backward out of said tube into the trough D', from whence they will drop into any suitable receptaole to receive them. rllhe seed will in the meantime have been forced singly through and out of the tube Having` thus deseribed my invention, what I claim is- 1. The combination of the tube D2, having' its forward end cut diagonally, p1ate H, and
tube 71,, arranged therein, box G, plate I, and 1 tube i, attaehed to the front of said box, and means, substantiallyas described, for reeiprooating the tube Dz and its conneotions, as set forth.
2. The combination, With the main frame A, of the rod D, trough D', and tube D27 attached together. means for reci procating them in said frame7 box G, having' perforated top, and plate E, attached to the tube D2 and having a peri'oration therein, and arranged to reoiprocate therein and act as a trap for the cherries, as set forth. i
3. In combination, box G, having perforated top, tube D2, having tube h, seoured therein, tube 17, attached to the front of box G in line with tube h, standard df, plate E, attached to said standard, and means, substantially as described, for reeiprooating tube D2 and plate E simultaneously, as Set forth.
In testimony Whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 7 th daT of November, 1883.
his 'TILLAB F. HIBNER.
