Present day-fashion approves of the display. in a; coat or jacket pocket of the upperedge of a fold chief. The exposure of; just theright amo a handkerchief, however, involves not onlyaae ing but the employment of'a handkerchief possessingsuifi cient stilfness to resist crumpling and slidingidowp out of sight in the pocket.

Referring to the drawing more in detail, the holder illustrated embodying my invention which at present is the preferred form comprises a pair of holding devices indicated generally by reference characters 6 and 7, respectively. Each holding device comprises a supporting member 8 composed of sheet metal, plastic, or other .preferred material shaped to provide a fiat plate-like body provided at one edge with one or more notches 9 and with locking openings 11, the locking function of which will be later explained. Each plate-like memher 8 is also provided with apertures 12 through which 7 fastening threads may be threaded to attach the holding members to the inner Wall of the users pocket, which nia i i.

In practice, the user may purchase an equal number of supporting members 8 and clip members 15 so that each of several garments may be equipped with a com plete holding set or, for purposes of economy, a lesser number of holding clips may be purchased and may be transferred from one garment to another.

Irrespective of the manner of use, the flat supporting members remaining in the pocket after removal of'the cli-p members offer no obstruction to either hand or machine pressing of the garment. pressing operation could also be eliminated by removably attaching the clip members directly to the inner wall of i the P cket by a pin or similar removable clip suppqrdng I Interference with the use only as an adornment such as a small piece of fabric a so folded and held in the holder of my invention as to simulate a real handkerchief. p

It should be apparent from the foregoing that a handkerchief holder embodying my invention may be economically manufactured and readily installed in a garment to securely hold a handkerchief or a simulated kerchief-in observable position in a pocket of the coat of a wearer, comprising a pair of horizontally disposed supporting members for attachment in spaced relation to the inner wall of said pocket below the opening thereof so as to be hidden from view, each of said members being provided with vertically opening, spaced notches and retaining means, and a pair of companion horizontally' disposed holding members each provided with downwardly projecting spaced hooks received in and having detachable engagement with said notches and with retaining means cooperable with the retaining means of said supporting members, said holding members being provided with open ended inwardly projecting clips for the reception of the vertical marginal edges of said folded handkerchief whereby said handkerchief is supported and retained in predetermined position in said pocket, said supporting and holding members being each disposed within and below the opening of said pocket.

2. A handkerchief holder for retaining a folded handkerchief in observable position in a pocket of the coat of a wearer, comprising a pair of elongated and substantially horizontally disposed flat supporting members constructed for attachment to the inner wall at the rear of said pocket below its opening so as to be hidden from view, each of said members being provided with a pair of upwardly opening notches and retaining means, and a pair of holding members each including a substantially horizontally disposed fiat body and an inwardly opening spring clip at its outer end, said holding members being provided with downwardly projecting hooks positioned to be received in the notches of one of said supporting members and having companion retaining means for engagement with the retaining means of said supporting members for detachably locking said members together below the opening of the pocket so as to be hidden from view.

A handkerchief holder for retaining a folded handkerchief in observable position in a pocket of the coat of a wearer, consisting of a substantially horizontally arranged and elongated flat supporting member aflixed to an inner wall at the rear of said pocket and provided with spaced notches along its upper edge and retaining means, and a substantially horizontally arranged and elongated flat holding member'provided with spaced hooks and retaining means for cooperative engagement with the notches and retaining means of said supporting member and with an inturned spring clip at its outer end for engaging and holding the vertical margin of a folded handkerchief, said members being disposed within and below the opening of said pocket so as to be hidden from view.

A handkerchief holder for retaining a folded handkerchief in observable position in a pocket of the coat of a wearer, comprising a pair of substantially horizontally arranged and spaced supporting members constructed and proportioned for attachment in spaced relation to the inner face of said pocket below the opening thereof so as to be hidden from view, a pair of spaced and substantially horizontally arranged holding members each having an inwardly projecting clip part at one end to receive and retain therein the spaced vertical margins of said folded handkerchief, and cooperating detachable locking means carried by said supporting and holding members including spaced locking openings in each supporting member and spaced hooks on each of said holding members having indentations with said hooks engaging said supporting members and said identations re ceived in said openings, whereby said holding members are detachably attached and supported by said supporting members wholly within the pocket and thus hidden from view.

A handkerchief holder for retaining a folded handkerchief in observable position in a pocket of the coat of a wearer, comprising a pair of substantially horizontally arranged fiat supporting members having openings adjacent each end of said members for attachment of said members in spaced relation to the inner face forming the rear of said pocket, said members having other openings intermediate the ends thereof, and handkerchief engaging and holding means for detachable engagement with said supporting members, said holding means including substantially horizontally disposed spring clips for engaging and retaining the vertical margins of the folded handkerchief and hook members having inden tations for interlocking engagement with the spaced intermediate openings in said supporting members, said supporting members and holding means being disposed wholly within the pocket to be hidden from view.
