Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL ARGERBRIGHT, OF GRATIS,
OHIO.
COMBINED CHUCK AND COUNTERSINK.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 29,657, dated August 21, 1860.
T 0 all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that yI, DANIEL ARGERBRIGHT, of Gratis, in the county of Preble and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Countersinks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing as forming a part of this speciication, in which- Figure l is a side elevation; Fig. 2 a bottom view; Fig. 3 a top view.
The nature of my invention consists in the combination and arrangement of such devices as will be hereinafter fully set forth and described.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now describe its construction and operation.
(B) represents a circular piece of metal slightly` convex 'on its bottom. Said piece of metal has its center cut out as shown in F ig. 2 and is provided on its under side with four grooves or recesses at right angles with each other. In the center of each of these grooves is a narrow mort-isc, which extends through the piece (B) as seen in Fig. 3.
(b Z) b) are clamps which slide in the grooves.
(a a a a) are screws which hold the clamps in their proper place and by which they may be tightened. Said screws also act as guides to the clamps.
z' 1l are adjusting screws by means of which the clamps are operated, as will be fully seen hereafter.
(e e e e) represent little uprights screwed to the clamps (b o o o) and to which the ends of the adjusting screws are attached. The ends of the clamps should be widened and so shaped that they will take a rm immediately over those in the clamps and are for the same purpose. h
(g g) are ears on the periphery of the cir- 'cular piece (B) through which the adjustable screws (f z' z' pass, as fully represented in Fig. l.
A is the shank by means of which the countersink is operated.
The advantage which I possess in thus constructing an adjustable auger is that I am enabled to enlarge my countersink without changing the position of the two other clamps, the benefit of which will be readily conceived.
In operating my machine I secure the auger or bit between the clamps by means of the adjusting screws, then regulating the knives according to the required size ot' the sink; it is ready for use.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The circular piece (B) in combination with clamps (Z) o ZJ), knives (d (Z), adjusting screws z' z' z') and guide pins (a a a a), when the whole shall be constructed and operated substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
DANIEL ARGERBRIGI-IT.
