; BAG-HOLDER.
SPEC'IPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,135, dated April 1, 1884-.
Application filed September 11, 1883. (No model.)
. new and improved device for holding a bag while the same is being filled.
Thisinvention is an improvement on the bag-holder for which Letters Patent of the i United States No. 174, 18?) were issued to me on the 7 th day of March, 1876.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of my improved bag-holder. Fig. 2 is a perspective viewof the upper part of the same, showing it holding a bag.
A standard, A, is provided at its lower end with a small pivoted wheel or roller, 13, on which it rests. Two braces, 6, project downward and outward from the standard, at about the middle of the same, the lower ends of the said braces being pointed. The standardA' is provided with a series of apertures, a. Two upwardly-projecting rods, D, are united at the lower ends, andprovided with apin, E, adapted to be passed into the apertures a in the standard A.P A U-shap'ed frame forms two arms,
F, which are riveted to the rods D. The crosspiece of the U-shaped frame is bent to fit against the standard. From the arms F the rods D extend upward a short distance, and are then bent upward and outward, and have downwardly-projectinghooks D formed on the ends, to hold them to the staples of hopper when the latter is turned down into a working position. The upper ends of the rods D pass through staples G on the outer surface of one side of a hopper, H, adapted to rest on the arms F. The hopper is provided at the bottom edges and at the outer end with two downwardly-projecting clips, J, which fit against the outer sides of the arms F. At the front the hopper is provided with a thumb-piece, K, which is usedto draw the hopperforward. The arms F and the rods D can be adjusted higher or lower, according to the height of the bag, the pin E being passed into one of the holes a, to hold the arms F at the desired height. swung up, as shownin Fig. 1, and the upper edges of the bag M are folded over the arms F, and then the thumb-piece K is seized, and the hopper is drawnforwardandthen swungdown. The clips J rest against the outer sides of the arms F, and thus hold the bag in place. The material with which the bag is to be filled is passed into the hopper H.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the post A and a hopper having staples G G, of two upwardlyextending rods, D D, having each a bend to If a'bag is to beheld, the hopper is form a rest for the hopper end, and an end rods and turned down into a working position, as described. PERCY COLE.
