SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,732, dated March 25, 1884.
Application filed September 4,1883. (No modehi To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK C. CALDWELL, 'of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Pulleys, of Which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specitlcation, and in which- Figure l is a face view, part broken'raway; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section. Fig. 3 repre sents another mannerof securing the rim to the disk or body. t
My invention relates to a belt-pulley; and it consists in making both the rim and body or disk of a plurality or multiple of veneers; as
more fully described hereinafter.
Referring to the drawings, Arepresents the rim of the pulley, B the body or disk, C the hub, and D D plates for securing the disk or body to the hub. The rini is made of a plurality of veneers glued or otherwise secured together. Any suitable nuniber oi' theselayers may be used, and it would be desirable to have the grain of the wood of the different layers run as niuch as possible i1 opposite directions.
multiple or plurality of veneers, of any desired number of layers, glued or otherwise secured together. The rini is prelerablyseoured to the disk by turningthe periphery of the latter outward in one or both directions, preferably in both, as shown in Fig. 2, forming a The disk or body is also Inadeof and durable, duced.
V1lange,B, to which the rim is connected by rivets or otherwise; or, instead of thus turning 3 5 the periphery (see Fig. 3,) of any desired length, may be employed for connecting the rini to the disk. The disk or body is secured to the hub by being clamped between two plates, D D, which are connected by bolts or rivets passing through the disk, and one of which is formed upon 0r secured to the hub, as shown.

A pulley thus constructed is light, strong,
and can be very cheaply pro- 45 I claim as my inventiony l. Asa new article of manufacture, a pulley the rim and disk or body of which consist of a plurality of veneers, substantially as set forth.
2. A pulley the rim and disk of Which consist of a plurality of veneers, the periphery of the disk being turned outward, forininga flange, to which the rim is secured, substantially as set forth.
3. In a pulley, the combination oi rim A,
