3 Claims. (Cl. 46-118) This invention relates to a dancing doll attachment for musical instruments.

It is the principal object of the present invention to have an attachment for a musical instrument which can .be operated while the musical instrument is played to dancing platform surface and collapsing under the body of the doll.

It is still another object of the invention to provide a dancing doll attachment for musical instruments in which the dancing floor platform above which the dancing dolls are supported can be hinged into the bell of the horn when not in use and wherein when it is desired to have the dolls appear they are simply elevated by pivoting the platform and the dolls out of the bell of the horn upwardly and securing them by catch means to the lever supporting post on the top of the horn.

It is a further object of the invention to provide a dancing doll attachment having two dancing dolls that can be operated separately or jointly by depressing the levers, one lever being above the other, and wherein a bell may be rung with the operation of one of the levers.

Other objects of the invention are to provide in a dancing toy attachment for musical instruments, with the above objects in mind, in which the same is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to install upon the instrument, of pleasing appearance, light in weight, durable, effective and efficient in use.

For a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the attachment with illustration made as to the manner in which the attachment is mounted upon a trumpet,

Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken through the attachment, on line 2--2 of Fig. 1,

Fig. 3 is an enlarged side elevational view of the attachment shown in Fig. 1 with portions broken away and shown in section, and

Fig. 4 is an elevational view of a modified form of an attachment connected to a horn so as to be folded out of and into the bell thereof and with levers adapted to be operated separately or jointly to dance the dolls and ring a bell.

Referring now particularly to Figures 1, 2 and 3, represents the dancing toy attachment constructed according to one form of the invention and embodying the features of the present invention. This attachment includes a fiSPatfifO U-shaped clamp support 11 having clamp jaw portions 12 and 13 adapted to grip the opposite sides of a trumpet 14 and on the bell end thereof. Extending rearwardly from the support 11 is a platform 15 above which a dancing doll 16 extends. A pivot pin 17 extends through the support 11 and serves as a fulcrum for an operating lever 18 that has an enlarged rearwardly extending portion 19 that supports a vertically slidable doll support pin 20. This support pin 20 is slidable in a guide sleeve 21 extending upwardly from and fixed to the top of the platform 15. A doll body or upper extremity 22 is fixed to the upper end of the pin. A skirt 23 extends downwardly from the body and over a pair of legs 24 and 25 loosely connected by eye connections 26 and 27 to the lower end of the body 22 under the skirt 23.

The operating lever 18 is depressed by a finger contacting forward end 28 thereof and while the player of the instrument 14 has his fingers on the valves 29 of the instrument. A bowed spring 30 is rigidly connected to the support clamp 11 and engages the underside of the lever to return the lever with the operating portion 19 to leave the doll free to be lowered by gravity onto the platform. The downward movement of the lever 18 when depressed and the elevation of the doll are limited by engagement of a stop member 31 on the forward end 28 of the lever 18 with the end of the spring 30.

As the pin 20 and the dancing doll is elevated toe ends 24 and 25 of the legs 24 and 25 leave the surface of the platform 15 so that the legs 24 and 25 will be freely 24 and 25' engage the surface of the platform 15 and will collapse sufficiently under the body 22 of the doll causing it to swing or turn about its vertical axis. The support pin 20 will have been left instantaneously free of the lever portion 19 at this time. Upon the next lifting movement of the doll, the legs 24 and 25 will again be suspended and when lowered the doll will again turn or spin due to the weight of the body of the doll upon the toe ends upon the platform surface.

The platform surface is preferably roughened. Accordingly, an attachment has been provided having a dancing doll, and not only can the doll be lifted but can be turned or spun in a dancing manner due to its construction and upon engagement of the toe ends of the loose legs with the platform 15.

In Fig. 4, a multiple arrangement of dancing dolls on a platform 46, which is hingedly connected to a bell 40 of a horn 41 so as to be stored therein when not in use, is shown. The horn 41 has a mouthpiece portion 42 and a plurality of holes 43 on which the fingers are placed.

Fixed to the top of the horn is a support 44 that has a ball fastening portion 45 at its upper end. The platform 46 is hinged at 47 to the upper edge of the bell 40 of the horn 41. This platform has a ball fastening portion 48 adapted to ride over and under the ball portion 45 whereby to hold the platform in its operating position over the top of the horn. This platform 46 when released from the support 44 can be swung rearwardly in the manner as illustrated by the arrows with its dolls 49 and 50 onto .the bell 40 of the horn so that its ball fastening portion 48 engages with the lower edge of the rim of the horn in the manner as illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 4.

The dolls are constructed and assembled upon the platform 46 in the manner similar to that described above in connection with the form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 3. The body portions are respectively supported upon vertically extending pins 51 and 52 engaged and elevated respectively by levers 53 and 54. These levers 53 and 54 are pivoted one above the other as indicated at 55 and 56 upon the support 44 fixed on the portions 57 and 58. The lever 53 is returned by a spring I 62v and its return movement is limited by stop 63 on the portion 57' of the lever 53. The long lever 54 is returned by a spring 64 and its movement is limited by a stop 65 on the portion 58 of the lever 54. The dolls will be spun in the same manner as above described.

. It should now be apparent that there has been provided an attachment for musical instruments in which a dancing toy can be exhibited at the same time the musical instrument is being played.

While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. The combination of a horn and a dancing toy attachment therefor comprising a support member secured to the horn, a platform extending rearwardly from the support member, a guide sleeve mounted on the platform, a dancing .toy doll having a body portion and legs loosely suspended from the body portion, a pivot support pin rigidly connected to the body portion and vertically liftable through the platform and the guide sleeve, said legs having toes adapted to engage with the surface of the platform when lowered thereunto, said toes upon engaging the plaftorm surface causing the legs to collapse under the body portion so that the body portion will be turned to simulate a spinning movement of the doll, lever means fulcrumed upon the support member and having a finger portion extending forwardly for engagement of the fingers of the player while playing the horn and a rearwardlyextending supporting portion adapted for engagement with the lower end of the support pin to lift the same and spring means for returning the lever means to its initial position, said horn having a bell, said platform being hinged to the bell of the horn, a fastening portion on the platform, and a cooperating fastening portion on the support member for engaging the platform fastening portion to hold the platform in a horizontal position upon the horn, said-platform upon being hinged rearwardly having its fastening portion engageable with the lower edge of the bell of the horn to hold the dancing toy stored within the bell of the horn.

The combination defined in claim 1, and a second dancing toy arranged upon the platform adjacent to the first mentioned toy, a second operating lever and spring means arranged upon the support member adjacent to the first lever means and adapted to operate the second toy whereby the two toys can be operated atthe same time.

3. The combination defined in claim 1, and a bell mounted upon said support member, a striker attached to the lever means and adapted to engage said bell simultaneously as the lever means is operated, to elevate the doll. 1
