SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Iatent No. 294,907, dated March 11, 1884.
Application filed December 11, 1883. (X model.)
To (1,221 1071 0772 it nuty concern:
Be It known that 1, JOHN THOMAS PERRY,
of La Grange, in the county of Troup and eors, 850.
The invention consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of the parts of a counter, as hereinafter more fully set forth,
and pointedont in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal elevation of my improved portable counter. Fig. 2 is a crosssectional elevation of the same.
The counter consists of a longitudinal box or frame, A, on the under side of which an axle, A, is journaled about one-thirdof the length of the counter from each end, on the ends of which axles wheels A are mounted, thus permitting of moving the counter about. For instance, the-counter can be ihoved from one part of the store to another, as necessity may require; or it may be moved outside 011 the sidewalk in case business is very pressing; or it may be moved out in case of fire, &c. The wheels are arranged at about one-third of the length of the counter from the ends of the same, to prevent too great an accumulationof weight at the middle. On the box or frame A six standards, B, are erected, between the upper ends of which a series of hoppers, O, are held. If desired, the counter can be constructed with only four standards; or more than six can be provided. As shown, the counter'is divided into two sections of unequal length; but itcan be divided into more sections, or the sections may be of the same length. In the left-hand section of the box or frame A two horizontal rows of drawers, D, are arranged, each row containing three drawers. These drawers are to contain pepper,
are formed, each of which is provided with a any of the sugar is to be weighed, the cover of the bin is swung inward and upward, and as soon as sufficient sugar has been removed the cover is swung down, thus preventing flies, &c., from passing into the bins; The covers or doors G swing very easily. plate of the counter box or frame A a desk, J, is arranged, which is provided with a drawer for money and another drawer for books, &c., the said drawer being held above that part of the counter-box provided with the drawers D. Two parallel tracks, K, are arranged longitudinally onthe top of the box A, and on the said tracks the wheels L of a counter-scale, M, run, thus permitting of moving the said scale rapidly to any part of the counter. The hoppers O are each provided with a hinged cover, O, and at the bottom with an aperture, 0, below which a funnel-shaped spout, N, is arranged. A gate or cover, O, is held to slide on the upper surface of the-bottom of each hopper between two grooved cleats, O. A handle-rod, P, secured to the bottom of the gate'or slide 0, projects through the aperture 0, and has its outer end bent, as at I the said rod being guided in a suitable staple on theunder side of the bottom of the hopper. The front of each hopper is provided with an aperture, Q, behind which a pane, R, of glass is held in grooved cleats R. The said hoppers are to contain flour, rice, barley, grits, dry sugars, green and roasted coffees, and other similar articles. In front of the hoppers a shelf, S, is provided on the standards B, on which shelf sugar-boxes, candles, canned goods, or other articles can be placed. Shelves T are arranged between the rear standards, B, on which shelves canned goods, bottled goods, &c.,'ar.e to be placed. On the end of the countera box, 7, for holdonter end with aleg, 7', provided with wheels W". On the said meal-box a cheese box and On the top 'Ing meal is held, which box is provided at the cutter or other receptacle can be placed. any of the material contained in a hopper, O, is to be weighed, the scale Mis run under the corresponding spout, and the gate 0 is opened by drawing it out by means of its handle-rod I. \Vhen the desired quantity of material has passed upon the pan of the scale, the gate 0 is pushed back and the opening in the bottom closed. The scale can also be run to any desired part of the counter if goods from the drawers D or one of the bins G are to be weighed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A counter provided with tracks on which a scale provided with wheels can run, substantially as herein shown and described.
:2. The combination, with a counter, of a. series of hoppers held above the same, and of atraveling scale on the counter, below the hop pers, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. A counter constructed with a series of hoppers held above the same, substantially as herein shown and described.
4:. A counter provided with standards 13, between the upper ends of which a series of hoppers are held, substantially as herein shown and described.
5. A counter provided with a'series of hop pers held above the same, each of which hoppers is provided with a bottom opening and a sliding gate for closing the said opening, substantially as herein shown and described.
(5. A counter provided with a series of hoppers held above the same, the spouts X, projecting downward from the bottom of the hoppers, the sliding gates O, and the bent rods 1, secured to the gates, substantially as herein shown and described.
7. The combination, with a counter, of the hoppers 0, each having an opening, 0, 1n 1ts bottom, the funnel-shaped spout X on the under side of each hopper, the sliding gate 0.
the grooved cleats O, and the bent rod P, secured to the bottom of the gate, substantially as herein shown and described.
8. A counter provided with a series of hoppers having openings in their fronts, substantially as herein shown and described.
9. A counter provided with a series of hoppers having openings in their fronts and discharge-openings in their bottoms, the said discharge-openings to be provided with sliding gates, substantially as herein shown and described.
10. The combination, with aeounter, of the standards L, the hoppers (1, held between the upper ends of the same, and ot' a shelf, S, in front of the hoppers, substantially as herein shown and described.
11. The combination, with a counter, 01' the standards B, the shelves T, held between the standards, and of hoppers 0, held between the upper ends of the slamlards, substantially as herein shown and described.
12. The combination, with the counter A, mounted on wheels, of the box \V, connected with the counter, and also mounted on wheels, substantially as herein shown and described.
13. A counter provided with bins 1*, having quadrant covers, and with drawers D and. a desk, J, substantiallw as herein shown and described.
